Chevy 350 - Pre-Vortec heads.

I got my engine warned up idle down to 350 rpm and runs fine.

The idle screws has been removed.

The fast idle screw has been turned all the way off.

What have I done:

1. Hooker headers - I know
2. Accel Coil
3. Extreme (Torque Master) Spark Plugs - Pretty good
4. Holley Off Road Truck Avenger 670 cfm. - Rock off road
5. Holley Street Avenger Intake. - got rid of that steel intake
6. Accel Sprak Plugs Wires. - Match the color of the vehicle
7. Fuel Mixture a little on the lean side. - pass emissions
8. 18 degrees timing at 650 rpm.

Is this a good thing to be able to have the idle so low.

When I floor it has no hestiation at all. It is ready to go.

Should I be proud ?????

I am new to tuning 350's

Do you think that there might be a higer compression in the engine than than standard 8.5 to be able to run this low of a idle ?

I can't think of any benefit to idling that slow, even a normal idle doesn't use much fuel. But you need to look at your oil pressure when the engine is good and hot, and you are idling that slow. If the lubrication system is stock, and you are using the recommended oil (5/30 or 10/30), I'll bet your pressure is around 10 PSI or less - and that isn't good on the bottom end at all. Also, I would bet the timing chain is doing a wild & funky dance at that slow of an idle - jerking the slack from leading side to trailing side of the camshaft.
Consider this: If there was any good reason to idle that slow, the factory would likely have set them that way.
Yes, you can be proud of your tune-up, but I would get the idle up to at least 600. I assume the slow idle is in neutral, if you have an automatic, what happens when you put it in gear, does it stall?

I have a high volume / high pressure oil pump.

If it idles a long time it start running dry.

I think my tach might be off because a 700 rpm the engine is really running.

THanks.

That Holley truck Avenger carb is a pretty sweet piece, don't you think?
Most Holley's do allow very precise idle mixture adjustments.
Yeah, I was wondering about the Tach reading, the factory one in my truck doesn't read well below 1,000 RPM. The $$ Autometer tachs in my race cars are super accurate at running RPM, but even they aren't dead-on at idle. (Kinda hard to get a steady idle speed with a bumpy cam, my big-blocks bounce around near 950 RPM). If you've got your truck idling way down low & smooth, it is a sweet feeling, huh? :iceslolan

It is awsome.

Runs like a champ.

At 350 rpm the idle is very smooth.

I can go down to 200 rpm and the engine is bearly running and there is no jerking.
