How do you reset it? If I hold the trip button in and start it and hold untile the light stops blinking, the next time the car is started it is still there. Have they changed this from the older cars?

turn the car off, hold in the trip reset for 5 seconds then turn the ignition on while continuing to hold the trip reset for another 10 seconds.

your owner's manual explains very well how turn maintenace light off.

actually you did everything right except starting engine, don't turn engine on.
