I'm looking for a relatively cheap exaust for my 2L (b20b) small turbo application. I just would like any recomendations about a quiet muffler that I could pick up relatively cheap that's going to flow enough for a 2.5in inlet. I just don't wan't anything that is going to be noticable when I'm driving down the highway.

Thanks,

I would go 3in with your displacment. I like the magnaflow mufflers, they flow well and are quieter. If you want a full exhuast, look at thermal r&d

Just looking for a muffler, the rest of the exaust is going to be made by me. How much do the magnaflows run and where could you get one, Maybe somewhere local or do you have to mail order?

Is there any reason I should use a bigger exhaust than the combined area of my headers? I know my headers are only going to be 1.25-1.3 inches in diameter, so I just thought I would be wasting money to put anything bigger than a 2.5 in single dia. exhaust.
I am also worried about being able to get a 3 in downpipe thats going to bend enough to let me keep my Ac, it a pretty tight fit. When I get closer to test fitting it (probably next weekend) I'll tell you if I can do a 3in. or not. Hopefully that will help narrow the options.

you could always do a 2.5 inch DPa nd 3 inch exhaust. Remember, the best turbo exhaust is not exhaust. The car we are working on now will have a 3inch DP and 3.5 inch exhaust.

So the turbo acts as all the restriction you need. I guess I am still used to the, no exhaust = no torque concept, and I dont want that. I'll See what I can do to get that 3in dia exhaust wherever I can then. It's going to be funny though, the pipe is going to be about the same diameter as the turbo outlet, Ill have to take a hammer to it so it will fit between the bolts.

I am debating what to do about my Catalyst... I don't live in Cali, and in fact I've only had my car checked once, 7 years ago when it was registered. If you put a 3in cat inline (like the one from the magnaflow website) will that make your car legal in a less restrictive state like Kansas, or does the turbo basically throw out any chance you have of being legal? The only thing I would worry about is if I get pulled over and the cop knows something about cars and I end up having to do an emmisions test.

You don't have to worry about exhaust scavenging with a turbo, that totally destroys the concept. You want as big and as straight of an exhaust as you can possibly stand on your car. Bigger and straighter and shorter means more power and quicker spool, you won't lose low end. 3" all the way back here, and she's fine for daily driving. Then again I am also running an LS/VTEC motor, ITR cams, and and ITR trans, which are all against the Gospel of Turbo, according to some people on here, so what do I know.

Anyone know where to get some 3" alum. steel mandrel bends? Jc whitney wants twice as much compared to the 2.5, is this typical?
