Smog Check

i'm due for a smog check. I'm thinking about running fuel injector cleaner, oil change, tune-up before I take it in, so I'd get lower emmissions.

My question is which one better in terms of performance and cost:

1. Take to mechanic dealer, for them to do a 2-step fuel injector cleaner $40 bucks, or

2. Will store bought Valvoline, Chevron cleaner $7 do just as good.

it's an integra..do u really think it isnt gonna pass? Make sure to get your car engine really hot when u get them to test it (dont give it to them cold).

If you use a bottle fuel system cleaner - try to use up the tank of fuel that you've added it too. Do the test with fresh fuel - no additives. The fuel system cleaners tend to run hot, and if your catalyst is degraded it will not be able to keep the NOX reading down, not to mention HC reading problems. If you do the garage fuel system purge method, a good burn down the highway should be all your car needs to be ready for the test. Good Luck
