Recently picked up an 1984 Accord for a project car to tinker with, turned out to be nice enough to make my daily driver. Just the other day though I noticed my tail lights were on. I did not have the lights switched on. My schematic on the 84 Accord electrical system is pretty general but shows the tail lights in common circut with other running lights, license plate lights etc except they are not on when the switch is off, yet my tail lights are ? I have pulled the fuse from the fuse block that is for this circut yet my tail lights remain on?

Anyone know where I might direct my search to find out why and where my tail lights are getting power to them yet the others in the common circut are not. Anyone know of any situation like this?

I have pulled the fuse block to see if anything was shorting the back side, this doesn't seem to be the case and this would not explain why only the tail lights are on and not the rest of the lighting in that circut.

I hate when things like this happen, when I thought my tail lights were staying on, it was a bright sunny day so they didn't look that bright. After going back to check things again last evening I find its not my tail lights but instead my brake lights staying on, oh well this makes more sense and I immediatly look to the brake switch on the pedal. After finally getting the shielding off I get to the switch, pull it off and bench test it, humm it shows good, well I am back to thinking ok I still have a short somewhere or switch is out of adjustment. The 84 Accord pedal setup is tucked up under the dash pretty well and its hard enough to get an American body up under that Japanese size under dash space, take one more look cramming my head as far as I can get it up in there, while I try to adjust switch in a bit farther, oh Good Lord! the plastic/rubber nipple that snaps into the pedal to make contact with the brake switch is gone, this explains the couple pieces of plastic I found on the floor board that I could not identify :banghead: I guess 20 years is the service life of these pedal/switch contact nipples. I still hate when this happens, but this explains why the neutral safety switch is not working either as i found that nipple is gone as well, live and learn :banghead:

I recently bought my first car, a 1987 honda accord lxi. It it a pretty good car, it has about 350,000 miles on it, but it is in good shape and it passed DEQ with flying colors. However, I have noticed a problem with the lighting. When you turn the light switch one click, the interior lights and the tail lights come on, but the headlights won't. Then, when you turn it another time, the headlights come on, but the interior and the tail lights turn off!! Where is the problem?

First problem is that you hijacked a 6-month old thread, with a subject matter that doesn't match your situation!

Meanwhile, you either have a problem with the switch (I don't understand the part about "interior lights") or - quite likely since the car is so old - some clown has messed up the wiring some time in its life.
