Tire brand opinions needed.johnsm 06-13-2004, 07:01 PM In the fall I am looking to buy 265/70/15's. I would hate to buy a second rate tire. I drive mostly on pavement and dirt roads and need something that is outstanding on pavement and snow. Whats your opinions about the best brand to buy for these purposes? Have had no balancing issues, no problems with anything. Though I will say they are a tad $$$, but well worth it! I noticed, however, you're looking at 15" sizes, which are cheaper, I'm running the LT245/75 16's. These tires run best, on my application at least, right at 38psi on all 4. I was also considering the Cooper Discoverer STs but the tread is a little too aggressive for my current diving habits. I don't know if the Revo's come in 265, I am pretty adamant about getting a bigger tire. The tires I have got now suck on ice. I once slide 200 ft before coming to a full stop. I was lucky nobody was infront of me. A guy I work with says I should get a real wide tire and I agree with him. Whats the widest size you can get without changing the rims? Do I need to put a spacer to bring out the tire so it does not touch the wheel well when turning? I'm also lusting for the ugliest tread I can get. I was going to get 265/70-16 but went with the stock size, I didn't want to run in to a rub problem and have to dump more $$ correcting it. No tire will save you on ice. Once you start sliding there isn't much you can do other than pray for that utility pole to move out of the way :rolleyes: witch it didn’t in my case :eek: It's very hard to recover on ice no matter what your driving skill level may be. If you’re Rodeo is a 1st gen. I think the 265 will fit with out modification. I'm pretty sure that 98+ need trimming, I'm almost positive I read something here about it. This is intended for Amigos, but to my knowledge, should translate to Rodeos as well: "1st Gens: You can fit up to a 32 x 11.5 x 15 tire on the stock rims without rubbing or lifting. To run anything larger you will need to lift the truck AND trim the wheel wells. 2nd Gens: You can fit a 265/70R16 without rubbing and if you trim the fender flare very slightly at the rear corner you can fit a 265/75R16. This is comparable to a 32x10.5. If you keep the stock 16" rims you can fit a 32" metric tire but if you go to 15" wheels you can only fit a 31x10.5R15 because of the width." I do not claim responsibility for the accuracy of this information. Spacers are application specific and only you will know the correct application by trial and error. Spacers are very controversial due to safety issues. IMO, for the ugliest tread, you probably want something in the mudder department, not something that will work well in snow (or ice).
