if i wanted to disconnect the gps navigation system in my 1997 750il, where would i begin, or how is that accomplished? anybody?

by disconnect do you mean remove the unit ? if you simply want to unplug it [ nearly removing it anyway] just open the L/S trunk panel and you'll find the plugs to the chassis harness directly behind the GPS unit located there.
