View Full Version : IWC: No Post Counts IWC: No Post Counts -GS- 06-10-2004, 10:25 PM Andydg 06-16-2004, 08:28 PM I don't agree with that, but a kudos or point system would be cool. When you register you are given say 10 points and for every reply you make you get 1 point and for every thread you start you get 2. Also other people can donate points to you if say you helped them out or you made a really good point about somthing. J_Swigz 06-16-2004, 10:02 PM I disagree as well. Giving ranks to people will make some people feel left out and then they will complain that they deserve a higher rank than what they do have, and those with the higher rank will think they are better than those with the lower rank, and pretty much it would just cause problems. Jimster 06-17-2004, 01:03 AM Agree I most certainly do not. Sorry, but postcounts are the most efficient display of seniority there is. Sad huh? Oh wait, I didn't get to 8000 to put up with this :uhoh: YogsVR4 06-17-2004, 08:35 AM Oh wait, I didn't get to 8000 to put up with this :uhoh: Shut up noob :loser: Just kidding. :p There really isn't a good way to track the quality of the contributions of any member. Having post counts is as good as any. Afrofent 06-18-2004, 03:26 AM I also disagree with the idea. GTmike400 06-24-2004, 10:16 PM Me two...What would I be? matada 06-24-2004, 10:41 PM Post counts are crap. Look through the last 100 posts of just about anyone. It will quickly become evident that many of the posts are just a smiley, or maybe 3 or 4 words. However, Postcounts do indicate how much time the average person spends here. I refuse as a personal guideline to post only a smiley, but a lot of the guys you see with 2000+ posts have earned their way here, and the post count DOES mean something to them. I have seen n00bs with 800 posts in the first month, and I have seen Mods with 500 in a year. Judge by the content. It takes 5 minute of reading post histories to see who a 'tard is and who contributes. GTmike400 06-25-2004, 01:56 PM As far as those one smilie posts and thats it, thats usually COT is it not? lakerfan1784 06-25-2004, 06:33 PM think of it this way... look at the post count, and when the member joined. that way you can tell their activity, and whether or not they post-whore, or are rather inactive (no offense meant to anyone). also, if you ask them a specific question directly, it can be a measure of how likely they will respond. flsurf420 08-19-2004, 07:14 PM i like em, they make me feel like i learned something. jcsaleen 08-31-2004, 09:39 AM i like em, they make me feel like i learned something. Exactly lol @ Gtmike400 about post count hahaha! 202,000 lol He most definetly has a say in this. :grinno: J_Swigz 08-31-2004, 02:48 PM Speaking of post counts, Mark, I saw yours and had to make light of it:lol2: http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/46742mark_is_satan-med.jpg jcsaleen 08-31-2004, 03:02 PM HAHAHAHA! CaTasHtRoPhE 67 09-13-2004, 09:43 PM hahahahahaaha but post counts are the best way to know whos new and not jcsaleen 09-15-2004, 08:01 PM yeah damn newbs! lol I dont mind em. GScivic7 11-23-2004, 11:44 AM whatever happened to the Reputation meter that we had for a little while? That was a great way to kind of establish a rank, and it's done by your peers. J_Swigz 11-23-2004, 12:43 PM whatever happened to the Reputation meter that we had for a little while? That was a great way to kind of establish a rank, and it's done by your peers. People were abusing it. Giving out bad rep because they could. thecackster 12-02-2004, 12:26 PM Maybe a rep meter for just the mods to rate you with. jeffseby 12-15-2004, 12:25 AM No F'n meter, thats gay. the mods would be up all night reading "helpful" post. The Post Count is a class idea. In the most case, you could look up to someone who has 5,000 posts for example. I have been on a site that just had Meters.....it was total Homo. J-Ri 03-22-2005, 12:24 AM I disagree about abolishing the rank system, however I think an additional points system would be cool too. (possibly similar to this "Rep Meter"?) Maybe give the thread starter the ability to give a point for a helpful answer, or take a point away for an insulting, stupid, dangerous, illegal, etc. answer. Would it be possible to have some sort of a "comeback" function? If someone takes away points, and 5 others disagree, whoever took away the point loses 10, or something like that? prototype80 11-12-2005, 12:44 AM i think there really is a need for a post ount on a site like this as compared to other notable forum sites i go to. this actually show people who have contributes to this post and tried to help others out.
