The hood on this car is crimped a bit, from a towing accident. The one side of the hood latch releases, but the other side will not free up. Consequently, we are not able to open the hood at all.

We inherited the car and are just trying to assess if it is even worth repairing - making "road worthy".

Thanks, Sarah

Hi SarahAnn:

Sorry to hear about your hood body damage, (Crimped), and the latch problem, and yes it can be a big time pain trying to fix yourself. :banghead:

Now before I can see if it is worth repairing or not I first need to know, what kind of BMW is it 3, 5, 6, 7, or 8, series, what model, 330i, 525i,528i,530i, 745i, etc? And in conclusion: what year is it? :thinkerg:

A 530i owner,

sounds like you must have a front opening E28 5-series. while someone is pulling the release, hard but not hard enough to break the handle, have someone else grab the corner that's 'stuck' push & pull it, up & down vigoriously. sometimes a good pound on the corner area will also release them but stay near an edge to avoid further damage to the flatter surfaces...........good luck
