04 Denali Transmission issues

I have a new 2004 Denali with approx 2000 miles and have noted that when accelerating out of a turn the auto transmission shifts hard, jerks or pops into second gear. I had a 2002 Tahoe and did not have this problem. Wondered if someone has noted the same issue and if it is characteristic of the 2004 Denali.

I have about 150 miles on my new 04 and I am experiencing the same issue as you are having but not as severe. For now, I am blindly assuming that it's because the truck is AWD and it's normal. Hopefully...

my 2003 and would pop out of drive on the hiway and go into neutral !!

the dealer "reprogrammed the computer"

I, too, have a new '04 Denali and am having similar unpleasant issues. Its kind of a jerky, sudden, and not expected downshift.

Unfortunately, the '02 I traded in was worse. Wierd mis-shiftes, slipping, and hard engagements. We all describe it differently, but it seems to be the same...

Not what you expect in a 50k vehicle.

Can't say that I've experienced such yet (knock on wood)...but then again, I had my PCM reprogrammed for firmer but not harsh shifts with WOT upshifts at 5600 rpm, among other things done to it. :naughty:

I think that you may find that there is a software update that addresses your exact harsh shift concern.

The reflash or reprogram for your transmission points is a popular fix for that problem. There is also a TSB for this issue. Dealers are aware of it.

I thought it was a transmission issue - it is not. I removed the 15amp fuse in the drivers side door well marked "4WD". MAN!! this ride is faster, quicker, and has none of the hard shift stuff as before. The local dealer told me it was prob more of a AWD engagement issue, rather than a tranny problem

I had the dealership evaluate the problem I was having and their response was that no programming issues were noted. Given the low mileage of the vehicle the computer is still trying to calibrate to my driving style.

Does anyone know if this is true as far as the vehicle's ability to calibrate to a certain driving style?

Additionally, I understand that there is an update to the program that controls this. Does anyone know the specifics regarding this so I can pass this on to the dealership?
