splicing an 87 turbo m/t wiring harness into a 90 turbo a/tgroundedsupra 06-09-2004, 04:36 PM Long story short: I had an 87 turbo manual running 14psi. clutch went out. picked upt a 90 turbo auto. BHG in 90, decided to swap. left 87 wiring harness and ecu, but the other plugs (TSRM B1, B2) didn't plug into the 3 plugs left over inside the 90 glove box compartment. I got the two years factory wiring harness and compared wires. most of them matched color, but the pin connectors were differnent, so I cut off the plugs from 90 wiring harness and spliced the wires together. Now I have the car cranking with fuel pressure, but no spark and no fuel injector pulse (tested with a noid light, not getting voltage to the injectors). I don't know enough about wiring to solve this one, so any wiring geniuses that got any ideas? or am I just better off buying a wiring harness and ecu for a 90 manual trans? Thanks for any help projectsupramk3 06-09-2004, 08:08 PM Wow, you really messed up when you hacked a perfectly good turbo harness :eek7:  All you had to do was swap one or two sensors on the engine and put the 87 manual engine into the 90 chassis, with the 90 auto ECU and harness. Think about it, an auto ECU will work with an auto and manual transmission, a manual ECU will only work with a manual. If you didn't screw up the harness too much then try and splice them back together, clean the wires very good and solder every connection, you don't want those connections adding and un-needed resistance to the circuit. I don't know how many times it needs to be said but 86.5-88, 89, and 90-92 should all be treated as there own group as far as ECU/harness' go, they are different color plugs and pinouts for a reason. Good luck with the fix, just hope you can fix the damage or find a new harness. By the way, what were you running 14psi on? Not a stock ct-26 I hope. groundedsupra 06-10-2004, 01:29 PM Yeah, I was running 1 bar on a stock ct-26. When I did this swap I decided to do all my upgrades too. I added 550cc injectors, Aeromotive AFPR, changed over theal Walbro fuel pump, had the valve job and metal head gasket 30K ago, all new seals and timing belt, lightweight flywheel, centerforce dual-friction clutch, SupraSport full 3" DP. So, I have found a 91 wiring harness and ecu for a manual. Should I use that or just get another auto wiring harness? I hacked up the wiring harness pretty good on the 90 to fix a few connectors that were messed up. I thought that the manual wiring harness and ecu would be the easiest fix, but maybe just a new auto harness would be all I need. Thanks for all your help, I should have come here first. projectsupramk3 06-10-2004, 07:45 PM Not quite 1 BAR, but man that thing must have been blowing nothing but hot air, if you haven't rebuilt the turbo yet then my bet is it'll go out sometime real soon. If you swapped the R-154 in and you already got a turbo manual harness and ECU then you might as well put it in, no sence in wasting time if you don't have to I guess. Nice mod list though, sounds like your on your way to having a nice, reliable Supra. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
