korndogg
06-06-2004, 09:53 PM

ridge_runner
06-06-2004, 09:57 PM
thats kinda big dont you think???

korndogg
06-06-2004, 09:58 PM

korndogg
06-06-2004, 09:59 PM
the last owner is an idiot and he put the wrong ones on so he bent the tubing so the shift linkage wouldnt hit the headers...well it did and it rattled like a mother.

3 inch tubing? humm, seeing as how the distance between the bolts on the outside two tubes on each head is only 1 and 7/8inches on your heads, 3 inches would be alot to dimple it in. and the answer to your question is no. it would probably only kill perfromance anyway. the bigest you should go is 1 and 5/8.

korndogg
06-06-2004, 10:11 PM
1 5/8? uhh...wow...lol...i was thinkin i could at least go with 2 1/4

ridge_runner
06-06-2004, 10:14 PM
oo shit i said 2 1/4 .............. i meant 1 1/4

68chevelle
06-06-2004, 10:36 PM
ok well my question to you is, do you know what headers do? do you know what happens when you use bigger tubes? for small blocks 1 5/8 is about the biggest. for big blocks i think its about 2 1/4, but im not totaly sure on that one. you can get bigger but they are usualy for drag only, or if your turning like 6 grand and up. when you make the tubes bigger it usualy makes your torque curve move up in the RPM range some. also, you need back presure. your ports are probably only like 1 1/4 - 1 3/8. with 2 1/4, an extra 1 inch of tube diameter isnt going to do you any good. plus like i said for bolt hole to bolt hole its only like 1 7/8. but they do sell adapter plates to run big tube headers that bolt up more like a big block header bolt pattern.

hmm..ok well i trust u guys :) im gonna look into it more..i was just wondering cause i want to start looking around...what about exhaust systems...i want something thatll give me that "muscle car" sound. i was thinking about flowmast 40s

68chevelle
06-07-2004, 01:45 AM
well thats like the original muscle car sound. the only thing is everyone and there mom has them. i still love the sound especaily with a camed engine. thats actauly what i run. i think the full exhaust system that comes with the 40 series mufflers is the american thunder kit. i cant remember for sure though.

korndogg
06-07-2004, 01:46 AM
see the thing is....i hate having something that everyone else has....what would u suggest?

68chevelle
06-07-2004, 01:53 AM
yeah im actualy the same way. i like have something different. but i still have flowmasters. i actauly dont pull up next to very many old cars like mine and yours that have the 40 series. it seems like alot more have the 50 series. the only thing i will worn you about is the interior resonance. thats the amount of noise you will hear inside. there is quite a bit with the 40's. also i dont have things like door pannels and a head ligner and that would quiet it some but if you like listening to the radio and people a foot away talking at a normal volume then you might want to concider something different or dyno mat sound deadoning. i cant sugjest anything different cuz they are the only things i have ran, but i do love the sound, even if i go deff by the time im 40.

yeah, the ones with the black case. atleast im asuming thats what you are talking about. if you go chech out the mustang forum i think it was and do a search they were talking about those as a scam. i personly dont think it is and the only reason the guy thought it was, is beause they are the same dimentions and have the same welds, wow they tryed to same movey by not having to retool all the machines. but they still gave some info on them so you might want to check that out.

korndogg

i dumped the Blowmaster for a Spin Tech muffler. The sound is amazing, and if you stick with their crossflow design (like stock), it still flows well...Unlike the crossflow flowmaster.
Here are the Part numbers for the 85-90dB Crossflow spintechs:
3" inlet, dual 2.5" out 343 SC
3" inlet, dual 3" out 344 SC
3.5" inlet, Dual 3" out 354 SC
4" inlet, Dual 3" out 364 SC

If you want louder, call spintech and ask them about the 88-93dB and 93-97dB mufflers. Not sure if you can get the Split case (crossflow) mufflers in these sound levels, but I am sure it does not hurt to ask! The muffler I have is a 88-93dB muffler and it is perfect, but it is Single in/single out.

if you got a first gen, nothin beats the original chambered exhaust system. dont think the one from GMMG inc for third and fourth gens would fit, but damn thats on my wish list. that chambered exhaust is loud, and sounds damn good. if i were you, thats what i would run.

where could i pick that up at...i work at an exhaust, shocks, tires, front end etc...shop but we only do stock stuff...and i cant get nething for my car..
