so i buy this truck, 1992 dodge dakota LS 5.2L V8 Magnum 2DR club cab off of a friend of mine. he said that the 4x4 works but he's only had to use it once. so when i try to see if it works i put it into 4hi and the try to spin the tires on dirt and only the back 2 spin. so when i hold the brake and put it in neutrel and pull it down into 4low it makes this TERRIBLE sound like there's no oil in an engine and grinds down into place and i still don't think that works cause i tried the same thing. anybody have any suggestions on how to see what's wrong or how to fix it? plz help...thx

That's the worst thing you could do. Never ever buy anything from a friend, because if something goes wrong it could probably wreck your friendship.

Why didn't you try out the 4X4 before you bought it? I can see you believing him because he's your friend, but you should always check things out before you buy something...

Check on the sidel of the transfer case. If it is a new process transfer, then it might have a vacum switch on the side. Autozone for $15 should take care of it. My Dakota was grinding bad going into 4x4 until I replaced the thing.

Did you check the level of the fluid in the transfer case?
