I saw this truck on Car and Driver television. They had a 4.8 manual, standard cab version. I believe it ran a 14.0 quarter mile, and with all the options was just a little less than an SS Silverado. It still would have a tough time with a Lightning or SRT-10, but I'm happy to see more product development for the Silverado's.....I've been debating putting on a supercharger to get some much needed power out of my 4.8.

Oh...I just saw another joe gibbs tested in the latest issue of trucks magazine. They said they abused it for 700 miles and were impressed. I'm not a big fan of the wheels though.....

Tx,
Ya, I saw it on Trucks. The host (Stacey?) was beating the crap out of the Joe Gibbs, a Lightning and the SRT-10 Ram. It was a great show. He seemed like he was really impressed with the Joe Gibbs....said it was much more of a sport truck factory competitor to the Lightning than the SS Silverado. I wish I could afford one! Hell, I wish I could just get the blower and put it on my 4.8. Can you say sleeper??! :evillol:

I seem to be a trucks tv junkie most of the time, but my schedule doesnt permit me to get to watch it every time it comes on unfortunately....but Stacey seems to have good topics and he doesnt seem scared to actually "test" out the trucks......I found a dealership in Houston, Tx that has the single cab Gibbs truck in stock and one of the Tahoes...but the cost doesnt justify the means....if you catch my drift. :banghead:

We had 4 of them at the Chevy dealer I worked for. I drove the 4.8 supercharged and all I can say is wow! It broke the rear tires loose at a little over 20mph.

If you ask me.. you should be getting quicker times than 14 with a supercharger. The problem there is you are working with the 4.8. Much less of an engine than the 5.3. With a supercharger alone a 5.3 would run much quicker.

Vett,
That is one sweet looking single cab.....I like the aftermarket hoods for that body style, I just bought another Chevey ex-cab Z71 yesterday and the aftermarket hoods for the '04's doesn't look as sweet as they do for that body style.

Thanks. I don't much like the new styling at all. I think the Silverado went the wrong direction. I like the Colorado's styling alot though. I was almost thinking about getting one. Saw a Turbocharger you could put on and get 350 HP. Nice for the Inline 5.. And quite a bit lighter than the Silverado.

IMHO,
A 14 second quarter mile sounds very reasonable for me with the 4.8 or the 5.3 supercharged Joe Gibbs installation (for some reason, they report the times and horsepower as the same for the two engines--which stock are about a 10-15 hp difference).
The reason I say that, is my stock Lightning that I used to own put out 380hp and it was a standard cab with a supercharged 5.4 Liter engine and it ran 14.2's all day long consistently. That is also what the magazines averaged with current Lightnings.
Now, once you put on an aggressive pulley, chip, and intake 12's were not a problem at all--even on stock tires.
What I'm thinking is, the Joe Gibbs is also somewhat mildly tuned since that truck meets the manufacturer warranty. I bet it is easily modified to get into the low 13's or even 12's. :evillol:
