HA! :evillaugh Say good-bye to freedom. Since I got mine this past May... never a moment's peace. I got friends calling me at work, and I'm like "dude... I'm at work - go pound sand or something" :D Nah, the positives outweigh the negatives. The first time you are stuck in the middle of nowhere and you can make a call, it'll instantly be worth every penny. Enjoy. YogsVR4 01-21-2002, 06:50 PM Sorry to hear that you are now at the mercy of all who have your number. I refuse to get one. Nor do I want a pager. My life will not be redirected by people who can reach me at all times. ragt20 01-21-2002, 06:54 PM Originally posted by YogsVR4 Sorry to hear that you are now at the mercy of all who have your number. I have one, but it just stays in my car, in case of emergency. I've never used it yet, and only my parents have my number. primera man 01-21-2002, 07:37 PM I have to carry one 24/7 for work and it drives me bloody mad   Spec2 Girl 01-21-2002, 07:42 PM Originally posted by YogsVR4 Sorry to hear that you are now at the mercy of all who have your number. With caller ID you can choose to ignore whoever you like! :D DantesInferno 01-21-2002, 08:39 PM Hehehe...I'm holding my phone as we speak. Okay, not exactly. ;) While it may be web enabled, I'm still figuring things out, but I'm finally cellular. I do realize that people will now be able to reach me anywhere at anytime, but like JD said, I do think the positives will outweigh the negatives. Anyway, for those of you who know me, and would like the updated number, as this will be my only permanent number for the year (I'll be moving a lot), IM me, email me, or PM me to get the number. :-D Even if you've never called before. ;) I'm off to dinner! :D SickLude 01-21-2002, 09:13 PM im also with the "i hate cell phones" crowd. i have one, but my parents are kidna making me because i get home late most of the time and they dont like to worry. so it keeps me "safe"...funny, 7 years ago, no one knew what they were. now it defines mainstream. just dont make it ring really loud when your in church or school or something important. its the most frustating thing ever. EVER. Spec2 Girl 01-21-2002, 09:36 PM It’s damn annoying when someones cellphone rings when you’re at the movies. JD@af 01-21-2002, 09:37 PM Originally posted by FTO Girl It’s damn annoying when someones cellphone rings when you’re at the movies. Oh nooo... DantesInferno 01-21-2002, 10:20 PM My mother is sure that since I have caller ID, if I see it's her, I won't pick up. :p 2001 AE 01-21-2002, 10:25 PM Now you're International! Like, if you don't want to talk to someone, and they call your house, you can just not answer it, and say you weren't home. DantesInferno 01-21-2002, 11:06 PM Originally posted by Swonder67 The thing that sucks about cellphones though, is that you have no excuse why you can't be reached. Like, if you don't want to talk to someone, and they call your house, you can just not answer it, and say you weren't home. I don't think that's entirely true. Yes, the whole idea behind cellphones is that you can be reached anywhere, but you don't have to answer it. I had a friend who got a cellphone not too long ago. Anytime I called him when he wasn't expecting my call, he had the ringer off, and I got his voicemail. Frustrating, but understandable. Everyone has their own lives to deal with too. Yes, a cellphone is convenient, but it should never be a burden, if it's a personal cellphone, and not one for work that is. Just my .02, and I haven't even had a cellphone for 24 hours, but just some thoughts I had going into it. RazorGTR 01-21-2002, 11:06 PM Originally posted by DantesInferno Anywhere. Yep, I'm going cellular. :o Good on ya. Here in New Zealand you only get billed or count against your air time when you make calls. Everyone else pays to call you. This is cool as everyone always gives out their mobile numbers and why not. It does not cost you a thing when the phone you hahaha. taranaki 01-21-2002, 11:21 PM Originally posted by YogsVR4 Sorry to hear that you are now at the mercy of all who have your number. I'm with you, sir.NOTHING is so important that it can't wait until I get home.Even if my house is on fire,I'll find out about it when I get there. RazorGTR 01-21-2002, 11:35 PM I agree. I leave my mobile off until I get home, unless the boss is not in. I use it more for text messaging than phoning also speediva 01-22-2002, 12:24 AM I love having a cell phone, but I have to admit that I do find it irritating when people keep calling me... But now I found out I can receive text messages even though I can't send them, which is cool. I went out to a movie the other night, but I was expecting a call, so I had my phone on vibralert, and I swear I got called 5 times within 45 minutes!!! And what's worse is that none of the calls were whom I had expected! Oh well. Like I say, man's blessings and curses are TVs and cell phones!!! Heep 01-22-2002, 12:30 AM Originally posted by saturntangerine Like I say, man's blessings and curses are TVs and cell phones!!! Thankfully I've avoided both for the most part... KatWoman 01-22-2002, 01:28 AM Well...how much you get bugged with a cell phone depends on WHO you give your number out to. I got my first cell phone back in '94 or so. The only people that were really carrying them around even then were either business people or people who had $$. My dad had bought my mom and I one for safety reasons/emergencies. I had to pay the bill on mine but at that time we were paying $8.95/month because we got the account thru his job...so paying was not a problem for me at all. I have to laugh because I remember one time I went to church, and I had the phone in my purse. My mom called to ask me a question. The "Bible-thumpers" of the group looked at me with a scanning eye and started whispering amongst themselves....then one of them went to the pastor and later I got a lecture about showing off and being prideful blah blah blah blah.....I kinda forgot the rest of what he said  But funny how today you see 12 year-olds skating down the street while talking on their mobile phone. You see people who look like they can't afford a Happy Meal at McDonalds talking on cell phones....you have to ask, "Who doesn't have one these days?" Having one does have it's advantages, however a lot of the phone-toting population does need a lesson or 2 on phone etiquette in public. For example turning it off at the movies. I also hate the ones who have to talk extra loud so that they try to look important to those around them. As for people finding me when I am not home, I have a good group of friends that if they call at anytime, I don't mind. Most of the conversations are pretty short anyway and they just wanna make or confirm plans for a later time. I did have a few not-so nice few friends back in the day that rang the phone like it was the end of the world....ick! tazdev 01-22-2002, 02:30 AM Originally posted by FTO Girl It’s damn annoying when someones cellphone rings when you’re at the movies. when I went to see lord of the rings some guys phone kept rining so this large muscly guy beat him up:) everyone turned their phones off after that:eek: tazdev 01-22-2002, 02:33 AM Originally posted by Razorgtst I agree. I use mine all the time and I think it has help me avoid about 7 Nikki Taylors to date. True, I look like some idiot having a conversation with himself 80% of the time, but the positives greatly outweigh the negatives. KatWoman 01-22-2002, 12:43 PM THe hands-free equipment is so commonplace now, I am sure people can figure out you are on a phone if you are driving and talking...and there are no other people in your car. I wanna get something for mine, but I am thinking of getting a different phone again so I am holding off. DantesInferno 01-22-2002, 01:32 PM Originally posted by Sham365 Make sure you get the hands free thingy. I use mine all the time and I think it has help me avoid about 7 Nikki Taylors to date. Nikki Taylors? Anyway, :) I thought about the hands free capabilities, but I'm not sure I'm going to do that. It would be nice, but I'm not going to be using it in the car. And as far as the girls I live with are concerned, I've got my own place, so I won't be forced to join the masses with their cellphones and hands-free equipment to talk out in the halls. I can crawl into bed with the phone. :) I just have to figure a few things out first...I think the first month is going to be trial and error. :bloated: gang$tarr 01-22-2002, 01:38 PM i've had like 5 different cell phones..... i hate it when i have one that lots of people have, so i just get a new one, hehe like to be original right now i have a Nokia 8890, it's pretty good, lots of features They're really useful, it would be soooooo hard to find people if they didn't have cell phones makes everything so much more convenient here you get kicked out of the theater if your celly is on SkYLiNeFrEaK 01-22-2002, 01:49 PM Its going to run me about 300 bucks for my deal on the celly, but its worth it. But not to many people will have my number. Dante, I'll be glad to give you mine:D Once i get it. Anyone who wants it, can just pm me and ask for it. BlowOff 01-22-2002, 02:00 PM You guys are all insane, cell phones are one of the greatest things ever invented, whether it was for vietnam or whenver the hell they were created. I love mine, its fuckin sweeeeeeet, a nextel :D :D . I dunno...its just cool to get ahold of friends with etc etc, and moms and dads that are frickin attatched to your side still. Sham365 01-22-2002, 02:05 PM Originally posted by DantesInferno Nikki Taylors? Sorry, Dante. Here's the 411 (taken from About.com): "Nikki Taylor was a passenger in a car driven by Chad Renegar, when he was distracted by the ringing of his cell phone, looked down to locate the phone and struck a utility pole...." "...Her tragedy has renewed the efforts of several groups to have legislation enacted to limit or outlaw the use of cell phones while driving. Statistics show that 25% of the auto accidents in the United States are cell phone related. Now Niki Taylor has become one of those statistics." Nikki Taylor is a supermodel. This happened mid last year. DantesInferno 01-22-2002, 02:21 PM Originally posted by Sham365 Nikki Taylor is a supermodel. This happened mid last year. Thanks Sham. That's pretty tragic. Driving while using your cellphone is not something I have ever supported. Even if you have speed dial. ;) It's hard to believe what some people will do while driving. I just realized how that will sound...that's not what I meant! :right: Heep 01-22-2002, 05:53 PM I've only driven while talking on the phone once, but as soon as it rang (I picked up right away so that it wouldn't ring 20 times and the person would hang up), I turned up a side street heading to the nearest parking lot, but it was a 4 second conversation, so I was done before I got to the lot anyways, so I obviously kept going. Heep 01-22-2002, 05:54 PM Besides, it's tough to steer, shift, and hold the phone all at once... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
