I was installing a new battery in my 98 Ranger 2.5L when I accidently conntected my postive cable to the negitive battery knob and visa versa. It was only on for a second when i realized what i did wrong. I did not attempt to start my truck. It did blow the fuse in my stereo and i replaced that. It also blew my alternator and also replaced that. So here is my problem.... The truck does run. But the battery light stays on. When i rev the engine to a high RPM the light will turn off. But when the engine is at idle or during normal driving condidtions the light remains on. I thought i was sold a bad alternator so i took it back and got a new one and still seems to have the same problem. If anyone can help that would be great. Thanx.

check all of the wires attached to the battery and all of those that go to and from the alternator...that's definetly what it sounds like to me...
Also check for any in-line fuses that may be blown?...

Basically sums it up. Check all your fuses.

Sounds like either you screwed up the diodes in the alternator or the voltage regulator is toast.

use a multimeter and check volts at battery when off(should be abt 12.50-13.00)check when running( should be abt 14.50)check when reving(should stay abt 14.50).
