87 Honda Accord acceleration problem

I have an 87 Honda Accord auto-trans with 150K miles. It had been running ok but this week driving from work I noticed it was accelerating by it self. When I stopped at the stoplight the rpms went up really high (??), when I pressed the gas padel I could never get the rpms to come down. When I tryed to turn the car off, it kept on running or trying to run even when I pulled the core wire off. The only way I could make it cut off was to put it in gear. Now, it still starts right up but the rpms are really high from the start. Too high to drive. Please help!
