headlights flash on/offcii 06-03-2004, 10:00 PM My 2000 GC has a headlight issue. They come on/off at various times , regardless of conditions..ie.running, not running, setting in the garage, bright sun or dim. No problem at night. Dealer says the multi function switch is good. They replaced the battery???? Said it was the problem. Still doing the same thing, just $135.00 later. Help!!! leowolf 06-05-2004, 02:11 AM so are you saying that in auto they come on when the sun is out, but when it gets dark its ok, they stay on? cii 06-06-2004, 08:04 PM Yes, they even come on in the garage with the engine off. You walk into the garage and they might flash on and off. nakamun 08-24-2004, 02:19 PM My 2000 GC has a headlight issue. Last night at 2:45 a.m. My 2002 jeep cherokee lights flashed on and off while I was outside with my dog. It freaked me out because I have never seen this before. Did you find the problem? Did you find the problem? Sounds like a BCM problem to me...This will require a diagnostic check of the circuit to find out why the lights are being energized. You will have to be able to read a schematic and utilize a meter to fix this one yourself. Just for shits and giggles you can try swapping the relay with another one when it happens next time. nakamun 08-24-2004, 08:00 PM Sounds like a BCM problem to me...This will require a diagnostic check of the circuit to find out why the lights are being energized. I'm sorry, I don't understand car jargon, could you put it in laymans terms? There has never been any problems with my Jeep so I am a little concerned. Thanks for answering. YtseJam454 08-24-2004, 08:15 PM BCM is the Body Control Module. I suggest you take it to the dealer who worked on it and charged you for a battery xj31 08-24-2004, 09:13 PM its the multifunction switch. a.k.a. the headlight switch.its a known problem leowolf 08-25-2004, 01:00 PM my lights flashed on and off after having the battery changed, and the key in the ignition. Im thinking you might have a bad battery cable, ground or power terminal problem with the conputer. Or maybe the car is telling you that the key is in the ignition. Also the clock must be set to the proper time because it uses it in the computation of when to turn on the lights. cii 08-26-2004, 06:33 PM It was the multi function switch. It was replaced and all is good. DCMc 09-14-2004, 05:07 PM I have the same problem my 2000. Is changing the multi function switch a do it yourself project or is this something for the dealer? If you don't mind me asking, what was your cost? JWTinDEN 09-14-2004, 08:53 PM Sorry but I want to confirm the flashing light problem. First do you have automatic lights? Second do they flash on and off in the middle of the night while parked? Third the light switch is in the auto position? My JGC does this so we are leaving it in the off position until we can afford to have the light controller module replaced. I'll report back if it solves the problem. DCMc 09-15-2004, 09:06 AM Yes, yes, and yes. DCMc 09-29-2004, 06:07 PM Does anyone know of a place to get a multi function stalk other than the dealer? I have looked on ebay, but the only ones I see are for pre 99 models. dcrecco 10-09-2004, 02:15 PM Last night my 99 JGC lheadlights came on while parked in the garage also. The switch was set in auto, The headlight options were programmed for "Lights on with Wipers" , "30 sec. Headlight delay off" , "Lights flash when remote lock activated" . I found my battery drained this morning so the lights must have been on for a long while. Is the Headlight switch the definete solution? dalehelman 12-05-2004, 12:30 AM I am having the exact same problem with my 99 JGC. I replaced the battery still the same problem. Today I was parked at a mall for less than 1 hour the lights were in the off position and the battery would not crank the engine. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
