87 CRX carbon fiber ideaxstatic_production 06-03-2004, 08:46 PM I was browsing ebay today and came across an auction where you can buy sheets of fake carbon fiber (i assume it's fake) that has a sticky back and you can use it to do your interior or whatever you want i guess. i was thinking about how it might look if i got some big sheets of this stuff and did my entire car in it. would it look real? would it look good? would it stay on? how long would it last? would it be hard to put on? etc..... what do you guys think - is it a stupid idea? i was thinking it would be a different approach at customizing the car, and at the same time not have to worry about a new paint job or rust. lxndr 06-03-2004, 10:25 PM :screwy: cvcc_wagon 06-03-2004, 11:18 PM i'd say don't try it, using "interesting" ways to improve your car usually don't turn out. i just got back from looking at a potential donor car for my 83 civic, it was an 81 prelude painted in really bad army camo :) xstatic_production 06-04-2004, 12:35 AM yea, i'll probably stick with carbon fibering my dash and thats about it... what about the piller? (i'm referring to the black piece of plastic outside the car between the door windows and the rear quarter windows, or maybe even the mirrors. any other places you think it would look good? cvcc_wagon 06-04-2004, 12:45 AM well one thing you will find is that decals don't form to curves very well unless it is a simple bend so getting it to go onto a mirror neatly may be difficult. as for the piller, it's up to you, personally i think the stuff looks kinda cheesy but thats just my opinion lxndr 06-07-2004, 01:23 AM One thing to take into consideration is that this CF patterned vinyl may not hold up well under direct sunlight and/or exposure to weather. In which case you will have have peeling or cracking vinyl and a huge sticky mess that you will need to remove. I've seen a similar material at my upholstery wholesaler only without the sticky backing. This material is good for making shift boot covers, but thats about it. TheSilentChamber 06-07-2004, 05:52 AM it looks extreamly fake, its basicly black and white checkers. 87civicfranky 06-07-2004, 08:09 AM a friend of mine used that CF "wall paper" on his neon...(the hood).................................... ..........................oh boy.......that looks so crappy........ vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
