first off, the car is beautiful and gots lot of potential especially for a non-turbo car, thanks guys for your replies, ok now that i got the car home ive been having strange high idle problems when i start the car and it sticks to that for a while and second, is it true that the car will only run right on premium gas, i put regular in the car now the car skips and has no power and when i put in the clutch it falls way below 1000rpm and then stalls like its the o2 sensor, it does it most when it rains and sometimes when it doesnt, like when you push on the gas it doesnt do anything and then it gives gas and then doesnt and finally after holding the gas down it finally goes, anyone have this problem, is it the gas, spark plugs being wet, coils, someone please help me out...i would really appreciate it!

never, never, ever put regular gas in. if you HAVE to put regular gas in, then put very little in, just enough to make it to a gas station with premium then fill it up with premium. the performance will go down if you put regular gas in.

ok this is the second time im typing this shit with a broken right hand. so im a little pissed. i had a nice long thing going here and it closed on me. so here we go

First, i have a 91 na automatic Z

bought one year ago, i had to get the alternator fixed as well as, timing belt, oil pressure switch, starter, water pump, vaccum hose behind the engine, and gas line up front.

Anyway, recent repair consisted of the valve cover and gasket. Ever since Ive gotten it back i have had weird idle problems. When it starts it goes to about a grand or al ittle over, then down to almost staling then back up. Does this a few times before normal. now, staling only happens when im stopped and try to go foward or reverse no matter what. its like trying to drive in first gear all the time with a manual and not being able to get it.

Now this isnt a constant pain but occasional, anyway of stopping this annoyence?

oh and yes i only use premium, change the oil all th etime, used a fuel injector cleaning and last time used a octane boost bottle with my gas

Hey! Do u have an aftermarket intake on the car? do u have an aftermarket nosepanel w/ vents on it? I have a 90' auto, w/ a stillen nose panel and that same weird thing happened to me four times. When I drove the car and pressed the brake and the rev would get all jumpy and go below 1. But when I notice it happen i put the car into neutral and let the brake go for a lil bit and the rev would go back to normal and then I would hit the brake and the car would stop. Then i shift it back to D and I have to drive it a few blocks constantly w/o having to stop again and the car would be back to normal.

I fixed the rubber seal that screws onto the nose panel so that water doesn't seep through the hood and get into my intake and I bent the plastic that use to hook up to the airbox down towards the ground so that my filter would be protected from water coming from the opening under the license plate. Ever since then, I haven't run into any problems with my Z.

If you do still have the airbox in, then I would suggest checking the filters. I was scared the first time it happened because I thought the engine seized, but I should have known better than to panic with a VG. The car just stalled and the lights went on and i was like... Nooo! Cuz my car is at 77K and i figured maybe it gave up on me. But heck, the engine is practically new after all the stuff ($$$) i put into it.

Also another suggestion, with our Z's... i wouldn't go down a block quick and hit the brakes, cuz that seems to be the reason my engine stalled on me a 2nd and 3rd time. By quick i mean going like 40 mph down a block and pressing the brakes til u press it real hard, cuz it strains the car and I think the car "feels" ur goin to get into an accident so it shuts off on its own. I know the feeling cuz when my car did a 720 when i made a turn, it shut itself off. BTW-- I HATE SNOW! bbut it was kinda a rush (almost like drifting) hahaha

so its not only me having these problems, and also everyone else is using preminum gas and not me...what a ass i am, well to find out today to have a whole brand new exhaust system, cat. converts and the resonator would cost a pretty penny, 571 a piece for each c.c and 404 for the resonator and labor more moolay looking at 2000, this cars are expensive, so i fixed the resonator and patched up the c.cs and now its doing fine, no staling the car runs super...thanks guys for everything!

most of the time when a car doesn't like to idle at one rpm it is because of a vacuum leak. with your car idling, spray carbuerator cleaner one spot at a time on your engine and when your engine about stalls or does stall, the vacuum leak is somewhere in the area you sprayed at.
