To all Gallardo E gear owners....
How is the system working for you, are there any problems? Have the dealers been able to solve them? What is your general satisfaction level with the system?

gweb, you misread the post. It says calling all Gallardo E gear owners, not calling all trolls...

the egear is great. except when it's cold. i suggest you should let it warm for 2-3 min before you drive it for the first time of the day. after that it is awesome. i have done some shifts while accelerating on curves and it is so fluid and crisp. i always drive in sport mode. i think the regular mode shifts to slowly. overall if i got another gallardo, it would be egear and not 6 speed

I have over 2000 miles on my eGear Gallardo and it is just getting better and better. I dunno if the car is adopting me or the other way. I still prefer my 6 speed one but eGear is much better than my modena's one.

7000km, and happy with e-gear. No problems with mine, so nothing to fix. Satisfaction level 100%.

I haven't driven a manual, but after watching a test driver in a 6 speed on the Motor Magazine Performance Car of the Year DVD, I was reminded how slow manual changes are compared to sequentials when driving fast. That 2-3 change looks clunky - he was missing shifts! I've never missed a shift in my e-gear. Remember, remote linkage manuals can have problems of their own as cables stretch and need adjustment.

I had a sequential on a Toyota MR2 a couple of years ago. That couldn't pick up reverse cleanly half the time. The Lambo get reverse instantly EVERY time without so much as a clunk.

Can't comment on cold weather - doesn't freeze where I live.

Despite all this, I would figure a conventional manual would give better clutch control at low speed. The gear lever also looks lovely compared to 3 buttons! All depends on your style of driving, natural preferences, where you live, how you use it as to which to go for.

Don't get an e-gear if you live up a steep hill - it just doesn't work! Also, in general it's jerky. I don't know about after 2000 miles, mine almost blew up on the first day!

Yeah Doug, believe it or not, your situation made me doubt egear, but now ive heard good things, so I called the dealer and switched back to egear. Im crossing my fingers!!!

Without doubting or disagreeing with Doug - I know his pain is real - I had the opportunity of tackling a steep driveway in the Adelaide Hills on the weekend. The car breezed up it. Long and winding, but no corners requiring 3 point turns, so not the same as Doug's. I should take a photo. I didn't have my camera with me, but I'll take it next time I'm going past to show the incline. My main fear was that the base of the incline would cause the skid plate to scrape, but just made it without touching.

I've heard about the e-gear software upgrade, but I'm not game to ask for it. If it improves one aspect, my bet is that it worsens another.

Hey Doug,

what exactly was the problem with your egear?

Was it confined to just a slope issue, or..?

Doug, sorry - ignore last post, read your comprehensive review in the previous thread.

Now over a year into production and distribution there is an upgrade on both the e-gear and manual clutches. There is transmission software which releases the clutch earlier and doesn’t ‘ride’ it so much at a slow pace. My clutch was replaced under warrantee after 6,000Km. I wasn’t driving in any way that would damage the car but there are real issues with the clutch and they have addressed it. Of course the dealer won’t call you in to upgrade it, they’ll wait until there is an issue and they’ll try and make you pay 10k to fix it which is what they tried to pull on me. There are still issues which they tell me will be sorted with the new transmission upgrade so we’ll see. Buy a manual if you have a choice.

Hey this is NO joking matter and you should NOT pay for this. There are known issues with the clutch on both eGear and manual and the factory and the dealers know this.

My car is still at Lamborghini where they are now replacing the Central Processing Unit (CPU) for both the gear box and engine management system and replacing the clutch AGAIN. This will be the third clutch and the car has done 4,500 miles.

It is outrageous that you pay all this money for a super car and get this sort of treatment. To be honest I’m over Lamborghini, my car is for sale and I doubt I will ever buy another not until Audi really take over the brand and treat its customer’s with the respect they deserver.

Flight for this, you will win and you can avoid the Lawyers as there are issues documented on the web and in these forums that you can use in your defence. I’ll give you whatever you need to support your claim bro. We need to stick together on this and FIGHT!!!

I just discovered this website and I have 5500 miles on my egeared
Gallardo. I've had the throttle bodies replaced, one the the ECU replaced, and assorted ground wire issues which supposedly caused my engine warning lights to come on for the last 5000 miles. The car has been in the shop over 30 days in the first year! I love the power and steering on the car, but I expecting better reliability with Audi's involvement.\
I owned 2 Acura NSXs and I miss them.

My LAMBO is GONE!!! I sold that sucker. It was the worst decision I have ever made to buy that car. I loved it when it was going which was 50% of the time I had it. AND the people behind the brand, LAMBORGHINI AUSTRALIA are the worst people you could ever imaging dealing with, total disrespect and dishonesty. That is another story which I will post some other time.

Bro get rid of it, there will be more shit too come i;m sorry to say. Good Luck.

Not too sure if you can relate but do you know that feeling when you first discover you have been ripped off by someone on some sort of a deal. Like buying something and seeing it on special the next day. That is the feeling I had the whole time I dealt with Lamborghini Australia. I am yet too meet anyone who likes them or has had positive dealing with them.

I haven’t visited this forum for a while with the exception of my posting last week. To be honest it was a nightmare from the time the trade in on my Ferrari 360 didn’t happen resulting in me having 2 cars, I still have the Ferrari.

I was told in no uncertain terms that if I change ANYTHING I risk the warrantee on the vehicle. I immediately wanted to upgrade the shitty sound system Gallardo’s are delivered with and was told this bullshit story from the warrantee guy JEROME from Lamborghini Australia that there is an encrypted central bus line and if I took out the system the whole car would shut down and I’d have to put it in a container and send it back to the factory etc. I saw Lambo owner’s posting all over the world where they were changing the systems and putting in reverse cameras and better system with no issues. This was typical of the bullshit they would continue to spin on me. They wanted around $9,000 for a Tubi Style exhaust and if you look at my posts I purchased one my self from the UK and had a professional install it months before Lamborghini Australia could get one into the country. When my car went into the workshop they told me to remove the exhaust and buy one from them as they didn’t believe it was a Tubi and thought it would damage the car. I never purchased one from them nor was their any damage to the car. It was a genuine Tubi but because I didn’t buy it from them and line their pockets with an inflated price they got upset. I paid a total of around $4,000 for the exhaust, $5,000 less than their price.

Right from the get go I thought the clutch was either slipping or the mapping on the release was too long and needed shortening. Basically the power wasn’t getting to the wheels and there was a lag as the egear held onto the power before releasing it. I know how to drive and I knew it was killing the clutch, which eventually did burn out at about 3,500 miles. Lamborghini Australia, that Jerome dick, tried to tell me that I had thrashed the car and must have been racing it which I hadn’t. He kept pushing that I had driven the car in a manner that was damaging. Can you believe that? This is a hand made Italian Supercar that has been tested and thrashed by every tester in the world, in fact it won the ‘PCOTY” which is basically the ‘Car of the Year’ in Australia and the magazine had the caption “A truly thrashable Supercar’ Lamborghini wanted me to pay $10,000 for a new clutch. I had a horrendous phone call with Jerome where he spoke to me like I was scum, I was in shock. I had just outlaid huge amounts of money on this car and around 5,000km it needed a new clutch and they wanted me to pay for it sighting I had abused the car. I stood my ground as I always do and told that fucker I would bring out the big gun Lawyers and sue them. Lamborghini Australia were told and knew there were issues with both they egear and manual clutches and the factory had already built an upgrade but they were trying to sell it for 10 grand. It seems the more I have spent on a car the worse I have been treated, no shit. I told that fucker I didn’t like him and they backed down and paid for the new clutch. They also paid for the third clutch that was installed 1,000km later and I ended up NOT PAYING for anything that became an issue with the car. A warning like kept coming on and it took Lamborghini about 4 months to get it sorted. They ended up replacing the Central Processing Unit (CPU) for both the transmission and engine management system. I was traveling overseas a lot and would leave the car with Darren in Brisbane who is one of the few decent people I dealt with during that time. The Service manager and staff in Brisbane were good but these guys were AUDI guys so they knew how to treat people, Lamborghini Australia don’t. EVERYONE I know who has dealt with them has had issues with them.

I was a lucky one. I managed to sell my car to a really nice guy and it was running the best it had ever run. I waiting to get everything sorted out before I sold it.

I lost money, quite a bit of money on my Gallardo and while I enjoyed it when it was running well it was NOT worth the stress and negativity that came with the BRAND. I got the BULL and the BULLSHIT and will never buy another Lamborghini again.

Good luck. Coastboy
