okay so it was like 24 today and warm...and my heater decides to blow hot air by itself...I just spent 890 bucks on her and don't feel like throwing anymorte in as far as this problem...so how would I manually turn the heat off..ie pull a fuse? if so which one? cuz turning the heat to cold air doesn't work...oh and I really don't care if disconnecting deletes my AC ..I think AC is overrated haha :iceslolan

for a short fix, fuse 10, 16 amps.

Gotta think about the heater controls, I never use them! There's a heater valve at the end of the engine block going into the firewall. I'll have to check mine to see if it's vacuum or cable opperated though.

This should be an easy problem to fix. Same thing happened to me on my way to school one day. There is a mount clip for the heater regulator rod in the dash, and if it pops off, the car will start blowing hot air. Look on the floor of your car for a small plastic piece. Like I said, mine did the same thing one day and it turned out to be this - the part only cost like $2.

Also; if that doesn't fix it, it could be the heater control valve located on top, behind the engine. They aren't that bad to replace and cost about $25.

Oh, yeah it's cable operated.

There is a control valve located behind the engine block near the fire wall. You can manually close this valve if the control selector on the dash is not working. My 83 did the samething.

Is air supposed to come out of the vent all the time? I have a small amount of air circulating that will vary using the temp controls. Also, anyone know how to get the defroster working? I read the manual but I can't get the window to clear up no matter what I do on a cold morning. Keeping it in the garage has been the best way so far!

Hey Kelly,
Welcome. Which 1985 944 do you have. Answer I'm looking for is either early or late. I suspect that you have the early or first half of 1985. Mine is 1987 and I have a neat button called "defroster effect" which is in addition to the regular defroster slider. It is a one push and it'll clear a window in a heart beat no matter how the controls are set.

You'll have to wait until someone with an early reply's. It might have been better to ask with a new question instead of reincarnating this 6+ monther (old thread) Good Luck!
