just my opinion but i dont the the loss of power steering is cause from the same thing as the column lock. could be wrong, is your power steering pump whining or hav ebubbles in it? no leaks right? fluid?

i believe that i have traced the probelm to the pump we took off the pump line and the was no fluid being pumped even after i started the car and tried turing the wheel. so does anyone know where i can find out how to change the poweer steering pump on a "2000 Grand Am with V6 3.4L" ????????

i believe its relatively easy, three bolts behind the power steering pully are the hardest to get to, but can be removed by turning the wheel...........13mm-1/2in i believe......... dont quote me on that. i do believe you have to remove the motor mount and overflow to have more room. other than that its a breeze.... just dont forget to fill your new p/s pump with fluid before you start her up. nothing too difficult to do though, good luck

hey, got a 99 GA SE and just had my PS pump, serpentine belt and water pump replaced this week. The motor had to be lifted in order to get the pump off b/c of the pulleys... went ahead and took her to a garage and let them fool with it - some special tool required to remove the pulleys I believe.... GOOD LUCK!

gordon there is no reason to lift the motor to do the repairs you mentioned and no special tools are needed to perform this job,
