What parts are needed for a rebuid?

Ok folks,
My 1987 N/A stock Rx-7 had problems idling, and starting. And it was not all the smooth running either. I replaced the plugs, wires, air filter, thermostat. I cleaned out the motor with alcohol and ATF followed by some premium gas. Nothing got it going. So I took it to the shop and had them test it out. Bad compression was the call.
So it looks like I need to rebuild my car. The thing is I don't have tons of cash. (suprise?) I have found the www.rotaryaviation.com website to have a basic overhaul kit for $530. I guess I could find it, but is that all I will need or on the other had is that more than I need to get a good rebuild on my car. I found just the apex seals for $180 or so. I just don't want to waste money on parts I don't need and also get done what needs to be done at the same time. What would be the best compromise to get this car up and running?

Any reply is appriciated.

Mike.
