I have a '99 Silverado which has the compass display in the upper right corner of the rearview mirror. Recently, the compass display went dim. It is so dim that I can't read it during the day, and I can barely read it during the night. Does anyone know what could have happened to my mirror? I have a '99 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

Yep! you got to put a new batteries in the mirror ,it may have got hot or may have got cold. It will work best between 50 and 90 this is an lcd screen and it reacts to temrature.

There are no batteries in the mirror!!!! Also the display is a VFD (Vacuum Forecent Display). You may have something covering the light sensor on the back of the mirror. This can put the mirror in night mode and dim the display, or your display is toast. Good Luck.
