At least the smoke matches my paint

Well I'm pretty sure that my motor is done for, (right after I spend 1300 on paint and dent patrol :rolleyes: ) at least it made it to 106k miles and change. The check engine light came on a few days ago so I stopped using it for daily driving. Today I started it up to take it to a local shop and see what was wrong and the check engine light was not on, after it warmed up when I was starting to drive it away there was a MASSIVE cloud of white smoke. . . Couldn't see anything. On the bright side of things I was planning on getting the motor rebuilt anyway and already had the funds prepared for just such an occaision. I was kinda hoping I would get it rebuilt proactively though, oh well.

I'm going to get a rebuild and a streetport, so I have a couple questions about the whole process.

1. Are 3mm apex seals worth it? Do they increase reliability at all?
2. What shops do you recommend in the midwest. (if any)
3. Where did you get your motor rebuilt and how was it?
4. If you are a good shop owner please let me know, I'm a good customer.
5. How important is it to get new rotor housings?
6. What are my options for a porting on a daily driver (I'm not looking for extreme)
7. (Insert Important Question I Should Be Asking Here)

1. I wouldn't get 3mm apex seals on a non-turbo, especially a mostly stock one.
2. don't go to the one in wakarusa, I e-mailed the guy and he told me 5k to rebuild and port the engine, but if you wanna go to tennessee kevin landers has good prices and a lot of people back up his work

6. if you go to kevin landers you can do small or large street port, anything bigger gives you a bad idle and a bad daily driver, he explanis what each consist of on his site, http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/content.html
7. the question you didn't ask was "should I give my car to soyo?" and the correct answer would be "YES!" :)

for the rotor housings it's best just to take them to a experienced rotary rebuilder and ask about there condition. The easy way to tell if the rotor housings are toast look at the chrome finish. If it's messed up or flaking then you need new housings for sure.

Well maybe not the first step to rebuild I was planning on but I'm buying a small truck. Not getting rid of my seven though, the truck is merely facilitating my rotary hobby. Now I wont have to borrow a truck to tow my car, or to pick up parts from junkyards. Plus the little 4 banger toyotas/nissans prbably get better gas mileage than my 7 anyway.
