I am having difficulty getting a smooth shift into 4 lo. Is there a secret? I have tried moving as the manual says and it's next to impossible to get it in. About the only way I've found to do it fairly smoothly is stopped...then it's still pretty hard. I rarely use this. Any help would be appreciated as this is the first Jeep that I have owned(but not my last!). I have the Select-Trac.

place the transmission in Nuetral, then shift to 4LO without pausing in between gears. and do not do it while moving faster then 3 mph, I would recommend coming to a complete stop then wait a second or 2, then put in Nuetral, then shift transfer case straight to lo w/ out pausing.

WOW! I kinda repeated myself there but hope it helps.

Thanks! I have found out that the best way is to come to a complete stop, put into neutral, and then let the brake off. When I do this it slides right in. Completely contrary to the owners manual but it works. Thanks again for your posting.
