I am trying to replace the trim panel on the inside of the tailgate on my '92 Civic Si Hatch and I am stuck. I managed to get the old panel off by pulling out all the clips but the tailgate release latch is causing me problems. I could not remove the knob on the release lever (see photos below for detail) and therefore could not remove the plastic "cup" that sits behind the lever. I had to squeeze and work the "cup" through the hole in the trim panel to get the panel off but I am unable to work it back through to get the panel back on. Is there a trick to removing the knob on the release lever?

I can't post photos so please visit this link and look at post #4 to view some which should help explain:

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks,

Brian

Mine just pulled right off when I was adjusting the tailgate to get it closing better. Maybe someone like a previous owner glued it on there.
