Black paint - "ebonying"?Cyndrix 05-28-2004, 04:06 PM Have you ever heard of "ebonying"? I have a new black Camry and it has what appear to be water spots, only they don't come off. It looks like they are under the clearcoat. I took it to the dealer which also has a body shop, and they said that this is probably "fallout" if it sat on a dealer lot for a while. I don't think the marks were there when I bought the car, I think it got rained on and the spots just stayed, but I'm not sure. The dealer said they could "ebony" the car, which is what they do in the factory after they paint it. Does anybody know what this is? It kind of sounds like buffing, because they said it would remove the spots, but I might notice some swirling in the coat. They also said that this swirling would occur the first time I have the car detailed, anyway. So I'm curious....has anybody heard of a process called "ebonying"? And how do you suppose these water spots got to where they will not come off? How can I stop that from happening again? JPad4 05-29-2004, 03:10 AM I've never heard of that process before and I don't think swirling should occur if the car is detailed properly. I've had great results on my vehicles with a product from Germany called Klasse. It's an acrylic cleaner and polish that's removed many minor imperfections on my vehicles. I'm not sure how you got the water spots but it would probably be due to the environment we live in, pollution, acid rain, etc. A good preventive measure would be to polish and wax your vehicle on a regular basis. Hope you get those spots off. Good luck!! Brian R. 05-29-2004, 04:30 PM Probably bird shit. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
