I buy all my parts (with the exception of some dealer-only parts) at NAPA. They ususally have a choice about what quality part you want to pay for: Relatively cheap for the car you don't play on keeping a while, and more expensive with a better warranty for longer-lived cars.

I usually buy my parts from parts.com. It is a nationwide network of car dealerships who are willing to sell OEM parts at discount prices. The parts will still be more expensive than if you go down to the corner automotive parts store, but considerably less expensive than if you walked into your local Toyota dealer. Like the person who posted before me mentioned, it depends on if you want to stay with OEM parts or not. As far as the "corner automotive store", NAPA is one of the best ones out there.

NAPA is there when you need it. The web stores are fine if you need something that can wait.

Another good point made by you Brian. Any auto parts store that is local will be much quicker than a web store. A must if your Camry is your only means of transportation and it's broken down...

Thanks. Often you will be in the middle of a repair job and you will damage the only gasket you have that works, your gasket goop has dried out, or other silly nonsense that makes the work unfinishable. That is one time it pays to keep an eye on the clock so that your local parts dealer is open the whole time you are working on the car.

I agree. I never actually gave it all that much thought, although that would probably explain why my work on our car always seems to take at least two days longer than what it's supposed to... But it's a really good thing to keep in mind when it comes to working on something that can be complicated.

My NAPA is open until 9:00 pm and 6:00 pm Sunday. It is a saver sometimes.

When I lived in Chicago, I lived by a part store open 24/7 (except Sun evenings). Those were the good old days...

Can u always get what u want at the store? Or they have to order it for u?

I end up special ordering from NAPA for alot of more expensive parts, but they have the emergency stuff (gaskets, cleaners, bolts, tools, goop) that I overlook needing before I start or damage during repair. For the more expensive parts, they offer such a selection that they can't possibly stock everything. I think they have alot more parts in stock for domestic car brands than for Foreign cars.

I buy as many body parts, tail lights, etc. off of E-Bay. Of course my Camry is 16 years old, I also buy as many used parts as I can. I'm cheap I guess. :loser:

Good idea if you know what you are buying. Also, body parts don't wear out like alternators and such. If they aren't rusted or too badly bent, they are good. I'd hate to buy a used alternator on Ebay.

I try to find a NAPA, but there aren't too many in the NY Metro area.

In NY, I go to GB500, which has proven to be the reliable local parts store for me. I trust them over Autozone & Strauss Auto when I have to get parts like alternators, starters, even steering racks and drive axles.

I used NAPA once in Ohio while traveling, and it was definitely worth it. I got my timing light from them on that trip to troubleshoot a misfiring. That was 5 years ago, and it still works as new. :bigthumb:

The ToyotaAndLexusParts.com site looks good. I need stuff for my Camry and although I prefer everything in my car to be OEM Toyota, some things cannot be helped in case of emergency.

Nice site you pointed out Yota :iceslolan

Never buy a used alternator or starter on Ebay. Definitely not worth it. :uhoh:

My NAPA is closed on Sundays...:( (I live in a very church town though.) The town's pretty much dead on Sunday. But I usually end up going to Advance, they're right down the street from NAPA, and they're open from 9am to 7pm on Sunday, so it helps when I can't get the stuff I need from other stores. Other than NAPA and Advance, the only options I have are to buy online, or drive 31 miles away to the next nearest auto part store.

I use Advance also. Good stuff in general.

Advance, NAPA, and Western Auto Parts have a good selection of parts and tools. Auto Zone is good for custom parts and such, but not a very good selection of tools. I think that's about all that's anywhere near me here.

When I stay in PA, I go to Advance Auto.
They got good stuff there too.

Autozone, Pep Boys, and Strauss Auto in NYC is good for getting simple "idiot-proof" things like fluids, wiper blades, and bulbs. Then again you can get Redline products at Advance, whereas you can barely find them at the other 3.

Can't get good tools at Autozone, but you can get tools at Advance.

Speaking of tools, Home Depot's Husky line is pretty good too. My brother has a really nice Husky set with the pear-shaped rachets, which are neat in fitting in tight places. :iceslolan

Luckily my girlfriend got me the same set for Xmas.. :bigthumb:

Nice set and well worth the money.

Are they guaranteed like Craftsman?

Home Depot claims it is, although I have yet to lose anything....yet... :evillol:

I tend to break sockets.

Hmm...well, if they are guaranteed I'll have to look into those. I'm one of the many who are always breaking sockets, stripping ratchets, you name it. I'll have to make my way up to Home Depot sometime soon.
