98 JGC Ltd--Any problems with V8 engine??F350Dixie 05-27-2004, 09:48 AM I'm posting this for my Dad, who's looking to but a used 98 JGC Ltd. and he's had a few people tell him that they've had problems with the V8 engine. He's a Ford man, so he's not "on the up & up" with Jeeps. He liked my 94 JGC so much that he decided that he needed one too!! Anyhow, if anyone knows of any major problems with the 98 JGC Ltd., please let me know. Also, the 98 has all-time-4-wheel-drive....any comments on that? Thanks in advance for your ocmments...good or bad!! mieth 06-02-2004, 11:25 PM I like the power on my 1994 JGC 5.2L V8, but the gas mileage isn't very good, I get around 15 MPG. Th all-time AWD is okay, but I think it contributes to the low gas mileage. I bought it used last year with 68K miles on it and so far the only thing that has happened is the the serpetine belt idler pulley broke and left me stranded. The belt and pulley were pretty easy to replace though. dksob81 09-14-2004, 02:01 PM the only real problem with that model just likes ours is the Infamous Viscou Coupling goes bad, I have a 94 Grand Cherokee Limited w/ 5.2L it has the Quadra-Trac(NP249) transfer Case, but luckily for me it was replaced right b4 I bought it so I don't have to worry about it for a while. but I am considering swapping it for the NP242 which gives me, 2HI better gas mileage and lil more power, 4HI part time (locks front and rear wheel) for 4-wheeling, 4HI full time (act just like the Quadra-Trac) that way I can just leave it in 4HI FT in winter and not have to worry shifting when start to slip, Nuetral, and 4LO self explanitory. But like I said, my VC was just replaced so I don't really have to worry about it going bad anytime soon,SO I AM NOT IN A HURRY TO SWAP OUT, BUT PROLLY WILL WITHIN THE NEXT 6 MONTHS OR SO. leowolf 09-14-2004, 02:12 PM I would have to say that the jeep GCL is the best car for the money. yes they do have some consistant problems as you see listed here in these forums, but over all i'd say that if you looking for a tow vehcle that you can go off road, and still go to the market in comfort, it is the best car you can buy and it fits in the garage, the pocket book and the gas milage is better than any v8 truck on the market. dksob81 09-14-2004, 02:30 PM I would deffinately agree, it has a very comfortable ride, great power, and has the ability of having that off road fun that every one wants. I have not had any major problems with my jeep that I didn't have anything to do with.....lol but if u are considering getting one test drive it if u like it, which I know u will, get it. any used car will have there fair share of problems. but the Grand Cherokee makes up for thiers. That goes for any jeep. ChadEbert 09-14-2004, 09:34 PM I have a 98 JGC Limited with the 5.2 and QuadraTrac and LOVE it. 113,000 miles, absolutely no problems, have only done routine maintenance. I, too, have heard horror stories about my model, I guess I was one of the lucky ones. The only downside is so so gas mileage, but big deal. Good luck to your dad, hopefully he has the same luck I've had. dksob81 09-14-2004, 11:26 PM oo yea my Jeep grand Cherokee LImited has 193,000 miles on it, and the VC was just changed at like 180,000, when I got it, it only had 183,000 miles, I have put over 10,000 miles in the last 6 months and haven't had any big problems with it. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
