well, i'm finally ditching my odd looking tails (see link below) and putting in some of the red/clear tails (basically like stock, minus the amber turn signal lens)...

i think ricochet and a few others have the red/clears and i think some of you have them smoked, which is what i wanted to do. i plan on sanding the outside of lenses (400 grit then 800 grit) when wet and then doing nite-shades, followed by clear coat...

i'm wondering how many coats of nite-shades people have used to get the lenses dark, while still keeping brakes, rev. and turn lights visible thru the lenses...(i.e. no cop-stops due to the dark lenses)

anyone with experience let me know...

check out the old tails here--i'll admit i liked them a while back, but the more euro tails i see out there, the less i like having them on my ride, even if they are slightly disguised...

2 light coats will give it a nice tint. I ended up spraying like 4 coats on to my bumper lenses when I had the Civic cause I wanted them to be black. With amber bulbs they still showed up really well.

i think ricochet taped off his rev. lights...i'm feeling like tinting the whole thing though...i'll post pics when it's all thru...thanks for the help

I know a guy that used a can on each tail light. I looks sweet just sitting there but not cruising behind him.

Just use smoked vinyl. It's what I'm going to use. Nightshades doesn't come off very easily.

I used three coats. They were a little dark but still very visible http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/528935

i was also considering this, but is it difficult to get smooth lines when i have those curved 96-98 hatchback tails?

SOFAST, thanks for the photo...those lights look really dark, i like the look...can you still see brake, rev and turn signals thru them during daytime and night? any cops ever give you a citation for them b/c of visibility issues?

thanks for the feedback...this will be my 3rd set of tails on there, so i want to get it right this time...all the help is appreciated

I wouldn't worry so much about reverse lights, but if your brake and turn signals don't show through that well, just buy some LED bulbs and you'll be fine.
