Grand Cherokee Wiring-Overhead Consoleautoman2164 05-26-2004, 05:14 PM Hey all, I just have a quick question...But first here is my situation. I have an overhead console from a '97 Grand Cherokee installed into my truck, but it is non functional... I bought it off of ebay, and I forgot to ask about the pigtail. Now I don't have a pigtail to splice into, nor a wiring diagram to figure it out. :banghead: I got the color of the wires, and their location in the plug, from a nice guy on ebay. I don't know what color wire does what though. I was wondering if any of you guys had a Grand Cherokee wiring diagram, and could tell me what wire goes to what, so I could finally have a working console. I will just try to make my own harness, since none of the local junkyards had it. Here are the colors(according to the helpful ebayer): pink white / black yellow yellow/ green black purple Thanks for any help in advance. Rob L. rj4wtc 06-22-2004, 09:49 PM Hi there: when you wrote that the console is non-finctional, did you imply it was manufactured without the electronics in it? And you bought one off EBAy with the electronic components in it? I might be able to try to shed some light on it. automan2164 06-22-2004, 11:00 PM It is a full electronic console. It has all of the stuff in it. I mean I installed it, but didn't hook it up so nothing works. It isn't powered, its just up on the roof...I couldn't wait to put it in, I wanted something to hold up the head liner...I want to hook it up but don't know how. I have heard I need a CCD bus or something, but Maybe you could shed some new light on this. Rob L. rj4wtc 06-23-2004, 05:57 PM Hi there Yes you do need the correct connection to the CCD bus line which stands for Chrysler CollisionDetection data line. Its a twisted pair serial data bus where the different modules "talk" or communicate to one another over the twisted pair network. It was designed to reduce the amount of wiring and supposedly streamline maintenance. That's how the OVHD console functions and receives all of its driver/outside temp/fuel data as well as VFD flourescent display dimming commands through that CCD line. Generally the Purple/Brown? and gray or white/black? iss the CCD bus line. Im not exactly 100% sur since I do not have access to 1997 Grand cherokee manual. But the other wires I know that are needed are the Power supply wire(s) for ignition and battery "keep alive" circuit, chassis or frame ground, panel lamp 5-12 Volt feed (usually orange colored for Chryco vehicles). Try to access Alldata.com for DIY (do it yourself) auto repairs and if youre planning to keep the GC for a long time, the membership fee (per vehicle owned) maybe worth it. Another route is Ebay! for a ChryCo service manual. Its my opinion only but I swear by them and I personally would avoid Chilton an Haynes. They are cheaper, yes, but not in depth like a ChryCo service shopp manual. I have one for 1995 GC and 1998 Wrangler. We have both SUV's. Hope this helps a little. automan2164 06-23-2004, 06:30 PM The thing is, I am installing it on my '91 Jeep Comanche. I was hoping to make it functional in that vehicle, as sort of a "custom" kinda thing. I was shooting for something that was self sufficent, but am now finding out that this console needs a separate brain to function. Could you tell me if I would be able to rig this console up to work by using parts like the CCD bus, or anything from a Grand Cherokee to make it work in a comanche... Any more input is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rob L. rj4wtc 06-23-2004, 06:48 PM Hi there Im not sure how the 1991 Commanche is set up. I advise obtaining wome wiring diagrams for the year model. Like I said before, obtain some wiring diagrams for a 1997. It takes a bit of patience and some footwork to look around but its not entirely inconcievable. Make sure that the contour of the cieling or headliner can acommodate the console too, im sure it goes without saying match the color of the interior to the color of the farbric around the console. You should obtain a pigtail from a salvage yard if there are any late model GCs out there. Theyre hard to find, you never know however. RJ vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
