Twin Turbo Engine in a 2nd Gen RX-7?

Hey guys,
I'm new to this stuff, so not knowing the engine names, I can't really tell if this question has been answered elsewhere in here... BUT..

Is it possible (read: within a reasonable range of effort) to drop the twin turbo engine from a 3rd gen RX-7 into a 2nd gen convertible. AND, if so, I assume you would also have to swap out the transmission, which, may or may not fit properly. Are there kits sold for this sort of thing? Would it even matter what type of transmission was in the 2nd gen car as it would have to be swapped out anyway?

On the one hand, it seems like there would be so much that would go into this that it wouldn't really be worth it... but then again, I know that the engine changed in only very small ways throughout the years, so I thought it might be an interesting thing to try out. Thanks.

No. It's not worth it. Besides, nobody wants the twins anyway. Single is the way to go.

Its been done, but for the money you will spend, it would just be better to to a TII conversion to your vert, and then build you a nice TII motor.

Theres a guy here called Jim who put the 13BTT into his FC I'm pretty sure.

Okay.. so I'm hearing that it's better to swap a Turbo II motor into this car (by the way, did'nt they do this in Japan and simply not sell them here?). Two follow up questions then...

1) Doesn't the Turbo II engine have quite a bit less horsepower? and..

2) If I were going to do this, how difficult would it be to convert an automatic to a 5-speed instead of using a car that have a factory manual? I only ask this because it seems like the automatics are a lot easier to find and also cheaper since no one wants them. The transmission should be changed out anyway for the turbo, right? So what all would be involved? (short versions are acceptable if this is a long list)

1, the TII was available in the verts in japan(I can get them off auctions and import them to canada...very cool...
2, not sure...
3, get a front clip, then it shouldn't be to hard

The Turbo II engine (13BT) has less horsepower than the FD twin turbo motor (13B-REW). But with a little work (and a lot less money!) the same power can be had.

13BT has 200hp and the 13B-REW has 255 so not much difference, especially when you consider the costs

They sell the motor mounts to put the 13b-re, not 13b-rew(93-95 motors) out of the early 90's cosmos but i forgot where, i think racingbeat.com....it's basically a second gen motor but twin turbo. a guy in town did the swap himself and it cost him about 3k total....$200 for the mounts, $200 for the TII tranny, $1800 for the motor, wiring harness and ECU(Ebay).....and a few misc things like hoses and oil.
