the trans in my 1990 lesabre makes a horrible chattering noise between 1000 and 1500 rpm. After reading some posts, i found it to be the drive chain in the trans that connects the torque converter to the gearset. The part is only $100 dollars, so i would like to save $$$$ on labor and replace it myself. Has anyone done this before or know how to do it? Should i take it to a shop instead? please advise. Thanks!!!!!

Okay, I have yet to find a way of getting the chain cover off the tranny without pulling it out. If you have someone pull it for you, buy the part NEW, fix it yourself, and have someone put it back in for you, that would be easiest. However, I do things the not so easy way. I pull it out myself, then open it up, fix it, close it, and put it all back togather again. Is the chatter in every gear, or just first? When you "let er rip", does the car shake violently? It does sound like that chain, or maybe even one of the gears. The gears can be costly, however.
