1994 Camry Rear suspension componentsGSS123 05-23-2004, 09:07 PM The nut that holds my 1994 Camry stabilizer bar bushing retainer on rear suppension is gone and the bolt is broken off flush with the frame. It appears this bolt is actually a threaded stud welded into the frame?? I cannot find any access to the top of the bolt if its a bolt with a hex head? So is it stud welded to the frame or bolt. And how do you go about replaceing it or getting access to the top of the bolt or stud? I've removed the rear set and don't see any way through the sheet metal to reach this area? I found this problem when all of a sudden on smooth pavement there was a constent rattling coming from the left rear. Got home and pulled of the LR tire and saw the stabilizer bar bushing retainer hanging down about one inch. There a second smaller nut/bolt still holding the retainer onto the car body. mrtwo 05-27-2004, 10:11 AM The problem sounds same as mine. Is there any illustration showing where the rear stabilizer bar bushing is and how to replace it? Can u diy? GSS123 05-27-2004, 11:06 AM Purchase a Haynes Repair manual and it will show where the bushing sub assembly is. The stabilizer bar goes into the rubber bushing that is part of the sub assembly. Replacing the rubber bushing is just a couple of bolts and some muscle power. That however was not my problem. If your bushing sub assembly is broken off like mine due to stud bolt corrision and you have to replace the stud bolt then you have the same problem I do. Post back and I'll give you the details if this is case. mrtwo 05-27-2004, 11:11 AM I will go get a manual and check if it is the bushing? If it is the bushing, i guess u will have to go under the car to replace it, right? How do u go under the car? I don't have a lift to lift the car up. Thanks. GSS123 05-27-2004, 11:15 AM Yes you will have to lift the car and block it up. Safety is alway first. Bushing is slightly forward of center line of rear cradle. One on each end of the stablizer bar. mrtwo 05-27-2004, 10:54 PM I went under the car w/o jack. Man, it is really tight under there. And the bushings look fine. But i can still hear the metal banging on relatively flat surface, even when i drive very slow 10 to 20 mph, especially when downhill. How can i tell if the bushings are worn out? When i go through bigger pit, it feels the shocks are fine. Brian R. 05-27-2004, 11:01 PM mrtwo: Run the car up on ramps and have someone bounce the car up and down while you're underneath it. Locate the source of the noise that way. I doubt you two have the same problem. mrtwo 05-27-2004, 11:07 PM I try to push the car up and down by pushing on both front and rear bumpers but i can't reproduce the noise. It only happens when i am driving. And man, camry suspension is really soft. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
