Z71 vs. F-150

05-20-2004, 11:25 AM
I have a 2001 Z71 w/ dual has a 350 in it. I have this friend that has an F-150 with a 302...It has dual exhaust also. He swears up and down that he can beat my truck in the 1/8! Who really thinks that he can beat my chevy?

05-20-2004, 11:48 AM
LMAO hahahahahaha not a chance youd smoke him even with a head start LOL

05-20-2004, 11:49 AM
Oh yeah and if you never performed an engine swap then you dont have a 350 which is the 5.7l LS1 you have the 5.3 right??? If so then its a 327 LM7

05-20-2004, 12:52 PM
and the 5.3 will haul some major arse...its faster than the 350 IMO

Yea sorry that's what I meant, I was thinking of my old truck... But he is gonna throw money on it, i talked to him today! He's really ignorant, a plain cavalier almost beat him! What's worst is it's the old 96 F-150. I wasnt gonna race him, but now i think i'm gonna race him just to embarass him.

Im not a Big fan of the F150 even the new one, My friend just bought a new Sport trac and I checked out the new models.. the Ford looks nice in the commercial but thats the top of the line model.. the reg XLT looks like a big plastic toy truck (Kinda Like Dodge) the only one that looked good was the Lariat fx4 which costs almost $38,000 the new interiors are sweet but id rather own a chevy or GMC any day over those guys.. Sorry to ramble but your truck will beat the snot out of the Ford...Give him a run for his money and shut him up..

There should'nt be any race to it! The truck I have pictured (1992 Silverado, 350, auto) smoked! and I mean SMOKED! a 1996 2wd Ford with a 302. It wasn't even close man! we was rolling at about 60 mph, and I mean I literally run off and left him!

I let my buddy get up to my rear tire in his 03 F150 before i put the hammer down in my 00 z71. I walked away from him, TOOO EASY!! There's no contest between your truck and his.

05-21-2004, 11:27 AM
I'll keep you guys posted on the race, I'm suppose to be racing him tonite!

He read the post and he got scared, he wont race me now! haha

I had a 88 Chevy with a 350 (189000 miles on it)
Replaced it with a 93 F150 302 (64000 miles on it)
The Chevrolet will eat it up. Not even comparible. The truck I drive at work is a 98 chev with the 4.3 v6 it will run circles around my 302. A down right embarassment. Anyone who thinks different never drove a 350. I don`t know why Gm discontinued this great engine. Best motor I ever had in a vehicle. I missed it when I bought a Ford.

Nathan let your friend take your truck for a spin. Poor boy hasn`t lived yet!!!

Once opon a time Ford had a 351 Cleveland, that I would take up against a 350. That was one motor that would scream.

05-25-2004, 10:05 PM
yea, i have a 351 cleveland in my bronco... which is fast but I know my Z71 will smoke that 302

My buddy has a 2000 F150 the 7700 series and my other friend has a 2001 silverado with the 327 and well i must say even as a chevy guy the ford was much faster off the line. the raced and ford won.

What is the 7700 series???

05-30-2004, 10:31 AM
The 7700 series is the f-150 with a package call 7700 it says it under the f-150 on the tail gate it is just a heavier suspension and well the overall gross weight of the truck is 7700lbs. where the Z-71 is some where around 6600-6800lbs.

05-30-2004, 06:31 PM
I see, well in that case, the Ford should have gotten smoked even worse. The "regular" F-150s weigh more then a Z-71, and I know 5 extra horsepower want make up for extra weight.

05-30-2004, 11:29 PM buddy has the same truck, a 96 f 150 w/302 5spd, and i have been in the truck with him and he has kept up with a gmc sierra z71, from a dead stop, the 302 will haul some ass too....but hey i like em both

Nice truck!!
did the ford have a problem shifting like the GM brands do?

F-150, Ram(5.9), Tundra....all have tried...and all got an awesome view of my tailgate and Flowmaster tips pulling away.

I think I will avoid that Titan for as long as I can though...

I raced my 96 chev work truck with the 4.6 V6 against my friends 1997 f 250 (light duty, new body style, 5.4) and he beat me, but barely. It was a dead tie to like 60 and we stopped at 80 with him just a nose in front of me. To say the least, he bought a truck like my 00 silverado as soon as he could sell his ford. Then a year later he bought an F250 Heavy duty (I don't know what's wrong with this guy) with the 7.3 liter desiel and chipped it. He beats my slightly upgraded 00 silverado barely, but he can't touch a factory duramax let alone a chipped one that my brother owns.

My stock 00 5.3L v8 ext cab silverado has a lot of power- but from a standstill it seems to take off rather slow- never reaching over 2,000 rpms, it really kicks in at about 15-20mph. Is this true for everyone, or is it just me, and what will fix it?

06-07-2004, 06:55 PM
Yea, it's like that for all newer chevs. It's a little computer setup that limits the amount of initial torque that is available to you. There are a couple ways to make your truck actually perform like is was supposed to, A) push the tow haul button and B) get a chip. In fact, I think besides changing shifting patterns and tire size, that's all an aftermarket chip will do for a non turbo gas motor. The tow haul seems to increase the amount of initial torque available, but I'm sure they have a little more ump than that taking off. Besides, if you squeal your wheels, that's an exhibition of speed ticket and gm wouldn't want to be liable for that. Damn bureaucrats.

06-07-2004, 08:25 PM
Yeah...I've been hearing alot about theese preformance chips lately, and I've considered buying them- but aren't they bad for the engine. I mean the engines are governed by the stock computers so that they wont reach as high of rpm's and thus last longer right? Will a chip significantly wear down my engine/transmission? Would it be a better idea just to buy a K&N air filter and some headers to unlock horsepower without hurting the engine?
