Can anybody please let me know how I can activate the TV on my M5 so it's on while I'm driving. I spend a lot of time on the M25 motorway so the more sympathetic of you will understand why I want this info.

you can't....

They are designed so that you can only watch TV while stationary.

For some reason BMW deemed it to be safer not to watch TV whilst driving, but lets face it you're mainly stationary on the M25 anyway.

If you really want to watch on the Motorway, then try this - when the car is at a complete stop put the car in neautral, apply the hand brake and hit the TV button.

When the horns start sounding it means the car in front moved at least 6 feet and it's time to start moving. Oh, and everyone around you will think you're a twat for missing it.
The moment you engage drive the TV will cut out and return to radio/sat nav.

The next time you stop you can go through the whole process again.

I don't believe there is an overide for this, and I hope there isn't ;-)

Thanks anyway. I guess I'll have to get in there with my soldering iron then.

You say you have a Y reg so I presume you're in the uk, try these guys - http://www.dashtechservices.co.uk. They're based in Nottingham and will do it for £100.

When I had my '01 M5 I had a kit from http://www.nav-tv.com.

I connected a PC to it (composite video out) so I could watch MPEGS, DVDs, listen to MP3s, etc. Also had voice recognition and bluetooth to my cell phone for checking weather and traffic.

Here are some links to what I did.

http://www.cjonesy.com/vette/carpc.htm This the PC before I moved it to the M5.

http://www.cjonesy.com/m5/navtv.htm This is some install pics and directions I posted a while back.

I also figured out a hack to get stereo input because the nav-tv kit is only mono-input which sucks for music and movies.

I used this company based in London and Essex... http://www.abacusmileagecorrection.co.uk and they were superb! I had a BMW m sport Coupe that needed the TV unlocking. I phoned them and they were with me within a few hours. I think they do mileage correction and all sorts of other vehicle diagnostics!
