73 Super Beetle for Sale.kaostrife 05-19-2004, 08:55 PM 1973 VW Super Beetle at Camp Lejeune, NC I love this car to death. It's my dream car. I don't want to sell it, but I'm afraid I wont have it ready for the move to Pittsburgh in September. So here's the deal... I either have to sell it now, and use the money from the sale to buy another one once in Pittsburgh (I WILL HAVE A BEETLE!) or hopefully get it running well enough to make the drive to Pittsburgh. The car right now, starts up without a problem, but once it warms up, it dies when idling. Brakes are locked up, and I can't get the wheels off. I think they used an impact wrench when the wheels were put on. I just tore down the carburetor, and put it back together again, which got it running, but does have used gaskets. I have an engine rebuild kit (new gaskets), and I'm planning on rebuilding the engine within the next couple of weeks, if it doesn't sell right away. The floorpans need replacing, but the heating ducts haven't been touched (yet). I will continue working on the beetle until A) Somebody buys it. Or B) It's ready for travel to Pittsburgh. In case B, the car will no longer be for sale, because it'll run well enough for me to make it there. I've replaced the back right fender, but it's missing 3 bolts. Has some rust. The worst spot, is on the frame next to the rear window. It's actually a hole in my bug. =\ Beetle includes used engine parts (almost an entire engine), light parts, new spark plugs, oil, bondo and body repair tools, bumpers, engine rebuild kit (unless I rebuild it before you respond, in which case, expect the price to be a bit higher), parking brake cable, accelerator cable, accelerator pedal repair kit w/ pedal, and brake pads. There's probably more, but I can't think of them off hand. It does start up, and it does drive, but like I said, the brakes are locked up. The seats are a little torn... needs a new steering wheel... and... I really don't want to sell it. But necessity is calling for it. =\ I will continue rebuilding it though, just in case nobody buys it, and hope it will reach Pittsburgh. Selling for $1600.00 Contact me: email: kaostrife@earthlink.net cell: (910)381-3776 A friend said he can deliver it up to roughly 500 miles, for around $300 plus gas. That's his estimate. I'm sure that we can work with you on the price. (After reading through this, it doesn't really sound like I want to sell it, does it? lol Sounds like such a negative post...) 89F150 05-20-2004, 06:30 AM What i'd do is get the brakes fixed. And leave it at that for the moment. I'm guessing it should be drivable if you fix the brakes. This should make it possible to make the move and you can then save up for a engine rebuild after you have settled in. I have had a car where the engine would die when it warmed up and when it came to traffic lights etc. just as you were saying. As long as I kept the revs up a bit it was still drivable. kaostrife 05-20-2004, 12:27 PM That's why I said that the work would continue. Hopefully, little things is all that I need to do, to get it to Pittsburgh. But I can't really chance it at the moment. Just giving myself an option. But thank you. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
