Unknown warning light

My mom has a 1993 Camry LE (I4), and for the most part it is in perfect condition. the one thing is there has been a warning light that has been coming on sporadically lately, and we dont know what it is.
it looks like the top view of a car, and looks like its supposed to indicate lights in the back. it is pretty much the same view as the "open door" light. but we checked all lights (backup, breaks, normal, turn signals, and emer. flashers) and all of them work fine. the light is in the lower left side of the dash panel right underneath the temperature gauge.
so if anyone has an idea what it may be... ur help is appreciated :)

it is a light that is supposed to tell you when your tailights/brakelights are out. It is notorious for malfunctioning or shorting. There are people here who can tell you what all to check but for the most part all of your lights probably work fine and the light can be ignored.

You will need to remove the upper trunk liner (that's on the inside of the lid) and check the wiring harness and all the wires that run to the lights for breaks. If a break is detected, or a split in the coating on the wire, just wrap some electrical tape around it, and it will be good as new.

My car did it quite a few time, and everytime it was one break light or the other. Check to see if any of your break lights are not working first.

I agree, check all of your bulbs first, very carefully before going and tearing into the poor thing.
