96 XLT 2WD 4 cylinder tune upRudytadow 05-17-2004, 08:19 PM Hello, Has anyone performed the 100,000 mile tune-up on a 1996 Ford Ranger, 4 cylinder? In a week or so I will be purchasing my brother's truck. He said all the maintainance is up to date with the exception of the tune- up. It has 95,000 and change on the clock and am curious about how involved it will be. I understand there are (2) spark plugs for each cylinder (8) total and they are in a hard to reach place. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Its been 20 years since I owned a Ford. It should be interesting. Thanks. Rudy boognish 06-05-2004, 02:48 AM l'm not particually sure about it, but whatever you find out l'd like to know. l just bought the very same truck and its at 105k miles. the last ranger l had was an 88 but a 2.9L, 6 cyl. l imagine they're similar, but l'm not sure how much. TheRangerOfDanger 06-05-2004, 12:31 PM here's a list of some of the things to do... change spark plugs (as you said, 2 per cylinder) check/replace the plug wires for wear and tear if you have a distributor, open it up and clean the contact points change oil / filter change the tranny fluid change rear end fluid check/replace the condition of the shocks check/replace air filter check/replace the fuel filter check tire tread and wear inspect the exhaust for damage and rust check the condition of the belt (probably should change it) check bulbs if there are any grease fittings (i don't think so) grease them check the fluids (ie steering, widshield wash, etc) check all of the hoses for cracks or drying out test the battery that ought to be enough for now... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
