no fuel pressure

Car ran fine one day. Parked it. next day it won't start. This may be a no brainer to some of you but let me tell you what I have tried.

1994 1.9L Escort LX
Haynes Escort manual

Checking the Schradder ( sp?) valve, there seems to be no pressure in the lines or fuel getting to the engine to make it start. I have already replaced the fuel pump and that didn't solve the problem. Reading up a little more I understand I should hear the pump come on while the key is in the ON position. I don't hear that.
I am not sure how to test that it's getting a signal. I thought I could disconnect the connector to the pump and use a Voltmeter to see if it's getting any power signals.
Not sure which wires to test and how much voltage to look for.
Help me there.

also. I am thinking the relay could be bad but even after reading the manual I'm not certain where it is. Best guess is driver side footwell.
help again??? and verify the wire colors connected for me.

I may have to swap out the fuel filter. Should I bother with that as well?
That I think I can do.
Timing belt and water pump are only 3 years old so that shouldn't be an issue.
Is there anything else I might have overlooked that I can check?

dont bother with the fuel filter if ur pump aint workin...if you just bought it, then there should be some warranty on it, take it back adn make sure it's good, then look for relays.

When the pump is out, follow the 2 wire's comming from the pump motor to the connector, than hook up your volt meter to those 2 wires, should be around 12 volts, right as you turn the key to on. If you dont have power there than the pump is probly fine and you should look for the relay next.

I'm not sure of the wire colours on the fuel pump realy
but if you bridge termanals 87 & 30 with a piece of wire the pimp should run. don't forget to put the ignition on. It may even start like this.

From memory the pump relay is near the drivers side kick panel or slight up under the dash towards the inner wing area they used to be purple but may have change colour.

Well, good news, while I was testing the Pump wiring connector to see if ANY voltage signal was coming in or not I noticed something odd. My car has the automatic seatlbets that slide when the car goes to the ON position. So while I was putting the key in the ON position, the seatbelts did not move. I wouldn't have even paid this any attention because the stereo always comes on ( which made me think the key was doing it's job ) but on one try the belts did move.
I thought that strange so I reconnected the wiring and tried the key again. This time I did hear the pump. I tried the ignition and the car started right up.
I let it run a few minutes and it idled just fine. I turned it off and then retried but it wouldn't start. After several tries I realized to get the car to start I needed to see the dash warning lights come on in their usual test when starting a car or it won't work.
So now I think there may be an intermittent failure where the key gets inserted. I haven't had any problems out of it today but the problem is there.
Any further ideas?

Check your fuel pressure regulator. That has been the source of many fuel problems with escorts. The thing is that you wont know until you have spent alot of money for nothing.
