Always found that to be troublesome too on my previous 97 jgc.. What year? It is also can be found in the owners manual. If I remember correctly, you depress both at the same time, then let off of one - bet I could never remember which one it was. :banghead:

DJ40 is right you have to press both at the same time, but from there I don't remember, you'll have to do like me and just play with it. What I do remember is it sets it in 500 miles each time you press the button. OK, here you go this is for a 95zj but probably the same. Press the select button momentarily then press and hold the set button for at least two seconds with the ignition on. :2cents:

It's a '97 Grand...I've been playing with it off and on all day...just can't seem to get it. It's not in the manual. Maybe if I stand on my head and burn a witch?
All replies welcome...this time I will write it down!

95zji is right. That was the same procedure for my 97 grand. It is in the manual - it is just hard to find. It is not listed in the index. Sounds like at one time or another must jeep owners have sat there playing with the 2 buttons trying to remember the correct combo.

I FOUND IT!- Just press and hold SET for three seconds.
Thanks folks...I'll save the witch burning for something more serious.

and there's also a way you can reset the mileage for the service interval - i reset mine for 3000 miles (instead of the 4000 miles it was set on before - could never figure out why it was that interval...)

the owner's manual suggest's changing the oil every 7,000 miles I believe. Yahhh right - had mine change religiously every 3,000, and this is what I had the service interval set at.

Here’s what you want to do to change the interval to be reminded of service on the console computer…
Straight from the Owner’s Manual (page 96).
Press and hold the SET button while turning the ignition ON. The Vehicle Information Center will display “Language” (whatever language was set during the last “Set” cycle). Press the SELECT button to display the next language selection. You have the choice of English, French, German, Spanish, or Italian. Press the SET button to lock in your choice. After step 2 has been completed the Center will change the screen to a 12 or 24 hour time cycle that you can choose between by pressing the SELECT button. Pressing the SET button will lock your choice into the computer. After step 4 has been completed the Center will display the service reminder mileage interval. If you choose to be reminded of service more often than 7,500 miles (3 000km) you can change the mileage interval by pressing the SELECT button. It can be set to indicate mileage in 500 mile increments from 2,000 to 7,500 (or in 1000km increments from 3 000km to 12 000km). When you have reached the desired number press the SET button to store your choice in the computer and return the display to normal operation. You have to go through all the steps to reset the interval, but it was worth it to me to be able to set it to 3000 miles.

Glad I wasnt the only one with this frustrating problem!! Just got my JCG in Feb and it didnt have an owners manual with it, so I just had to figure everything out on my own...I was going crazy with the "Perform Service" being set to 7500 miles!! Thanks!!

Cool! Glad my 'nerdiness' of keeping every manual I run into actually pays off once in a while...
