Electrical Problems

Recently my husband had a remote start alarm system installed on our trail blazer and about 2 weeks later we started having serious problems with our electrical system. The temp/gas/oil/volt/ gauges don't work. The A.c won't work. The information panel shows unknown driver when we stick our key in the ignition. The driver side door panel no longer works, the windows won't go down either. The radio has also stopped working but for about a week we could jump up and down in the driver seat and it would come back on again. I took it to a cheverolet dealership and they said it was the alarm, but that was ripped out and nothing would work then either. Then I was told to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and then hook it back up again which I did and sparks flew and now the whole truck won't trun over. If anybody has had this problem, or knows what could be doing it, please let me know.

Unfortunately, the TBlazers are kinda prone to electrical gemlins. Also, can't rule out what the installer did. I work on manly GM vehicles and do remote starts. I have seen it all. You need to take it back to the dealer now that everything is taken out. They should be able to diagnose it now.
BTW, what kind of remote start do you have and what parts did they use to make it work in your car?

Having worked at a custom auto shop in the past, chances are a botched install is the source of your problems. How reputable was the shop that did the install? (How much did you pay?) Many shop owners are looking to boost their bottom lines any more (think high volume shops), and few shops seem to be as concerned with quality work since business is generally down. Any more, shops use cheap splices to tap into the electrical system, and the problem is that if the splices are not properly sized, they will cut the wires and cause shorts and other maladies. A proper install would have involoved soldering and/or reharnessing. The confused info panel would come from a Passkey bypass. They probably tapped into the drivers side controls for the alarm causing them to no longer work. Basically, the shop that installed the alarm cheapened it up and ruined your truck. :banghead:

I have the same issue with my 2002 Bravada, 4.2 I6, I changed the battery, now nothing works, except the dash lights up when I try to start, I get unknown driver, and will not even turn over. I know the battery is good because it is brand new, the fans work, the air pump for the air shocks come on etc, but no radio, no pwr windows , no dome lights, no remote keyfob, and can't even lock doors.
I disconnected the battery, following "Mitchels" manual, and still same, dealer just wants to tow it in, and charge me for a tow, and who knows what else.

You need to reset your security system. I know I have seen it on this forum. Try searching.
