problems pulling key out of ignitionjjhernandez 05-13-2004, 11:53 PM Hi, I just bought a 1996 Toyota 4Runner Limited. I am having problems getting the key out of the ignition. I turn it all the way to the Lock position but the key will not come out. I wiggle it several times until it finally comes out. It gets frustating at times. The transmission is in Park and everything seem to be ok. Any ideas as to why I am having this problem? Is there a trick to get it out? ! Help ! thanks. Brian R. 05-14-2004, 12:53 AM Try putting some graphite powder in the lock and work the lock around and the key in and out. C-DUBYA 05-14-2004, 12:23 PM is it the origional key? or a copy. You could have a key cut from the vin code, i did that for my 95 and now have no problems with any of the cylinders. Just a guess cause when i bought my runner the dealer cut me a copy key, but it was from my old warn key, so it never went in the tumblers correctly, once i got a code key it was like butter. OzzyO 07-05-2005, 04:44 PM For anyone that has problems with a 4Runner and getting the key out of the ignition. I have a 94 4Runner and the key started getting stuck, so I'd turn the steering wheel a bit to get it out. Finally it got to the point where the key would not come out !! It turned out to be the linkage for the auto tranny shifter. The linkage was not allowing the transmission to fully go into Park so after oiling the linkage up and working the transmission shifter through Park all the way down and back up again a few times the key worked again and I haven't had a problem since. Maybe it'll help someone else :) Ozzy vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
