When you guys got your windows tinted, did the back look kind of sloppy? Like the back window; does the tint not seal onto around the dots around the window? I took some pics because it's hard to explain.

Your talking about around the window defroster things. Was you car just done? If so, it might be water spots and should clear up when it dries. If you've had it on for a while, then they did a sloppy job and it will eventually start peeling from those spots. I've seen like trans am's do this b/c they have a lot of window defroster stuff and it looks kinda sloppy b/c its hard to tint over that stuff. In your case, this shouldn't be happening.

Yes, I got this tinting done months ago, and have always been really bothered about how it looked. These are def. NOT waterspots. The guy at the tinting place actually said it was impossible to get the tint sealed around these. I thought it sounded like bullcrap because I've never heard of anyone complaining about this. All in all, the place I went to did a really CRAPPY job. I just notice I am already getting a bubble in one of my rear windows.

To be fair, it *is* hard to get the tint to seal around those dots. They're essentially raised dots on your window. The same thing would happen if you tinted over a grain of sand in the middle of the window. You'd get a little air bubble there. The only fix for it is a tint installer that takes his time and has pride in his work. You'll notice that those bubbles don't show up *all* the way around the window, even though the black dots are all the way around the window. The tinter should have taken more time to smooth the bubbles and perhaps warmed the window/tint a little more before applying. If it's been on there for three months, i'd say you don't have much recourse.

Like cue-ball said, it is difficult for tint to adhere to the defrost lines and dots around the edge. Any reptuable tint shop should have given you heads up on that, at least mine did. Anyway, nothing to really bitch about, heres a photo of mine.

It might be hard to do, but if you got it "professionally" done, it should be perfect.

My P!! came out perfect both times ( the first time he cut out the brake light and told me if didn't like it I could get it redone). So I tried it for a while, then got it redone.

But both times came out w/ no problems!:flash:

Sorry, no pics:( I got a digi but it ain't a camera!:smoker2:

Peace!

Well the tinting was around $300 so I don't know, what should I expect? This is not the only problem. My front right window got jammed because the tint was folded up, there is now a huge bubble in my left back window, and there was also a huge bubble on my very back window. Plus it is kind of like this on the back small windows, where in the corners there are little bubbles, like they didn't take much time w/ it.

Usually at when you get it done at the place, they will tell you if they do seamless tint. If you get seamless tint, there won't be any lines.

How hard is it to take off the tint off the back window without screwing up the defrost system.

$300 USD for a tint job!!??! That I consider expensive.

frogg, you run into the same problem that almost everyone experience. Like someone said, if you got it done professionally and the installer has pride in his work, it should come out perfect.

Jebuz! For that much I'd expect perfection. I'd go back and raise hell! Talk to the manager/owner. I think I overpaid for mine but it did come out perfect and after close to 3 years it's still like the day they put it on. I'm not happy with the type of tint I put on but that's my fault and I'll probably get it redone with a nice metallic tint someday.

Unless you're cruzing around South Mississauga, thinking, "Damn I could use some tint!" I don't think you have to worry. :p

I only paid $180+tax for mine. But they did a top notch job and the tint is pretty good quality 3M tint.

Oh they are not bad...but they are not metallic? GGGRRR...
The one I used on the maui blue was Formula One tint. It's totally US brand and quite popular but there is only one retailer left in Ontario and he locates in Newmarket. He did a decent job for $250+taxes. The cost mainly for the tint itself. I might go back to this place just for the tint but I also found out that Thornhill Tinting does an excellent job. They are the tint intaller for the Acura dealership.

Acutally, 3M makes a Mirror tint. Very blue-ish look. My brand mirror tint is Llumar Platinum Plus. Very good tint, more of a silverish look.

To take it off flawlessly, you have to spray down the inside of the window with amonia. After this, you have to put a trash bag up to the window so it covers all of it. Make sure it is firmly against the window and it should be no problem if it is still wet from the amonia. Now you have to let it sit in the sun for a while so it adheres to the window tint. After everything dries, you peel off the trash bag and the tint comes with it. Got this info from a person that works at a tint salon. I saw the finished product and it worked pretty damn good.

Just a little FYI for all you G20-ers that clean the inside of their windows.:D Never clean them with windex or anything that contains amonia. This destroys the window film and you will be sorry. The best way to clean the windows is with water and soap. Some auto retailers have some products that clean the windows and don't contain amonia. :bloated:

good thought.....but it is the responsibility of the tint installer to tell you what type of window cleaning fluid is good for the tint or not. The adherence part is up to the operator :)

Let me tell you-COPS LOVE MIRROR TINT!:finger4: Pigs

I had it on my old car and got harassed numerous times. One cop after pulling me over a third time, scratched my tint and said, "I told you this tint is illegal (b/c it reflects sunlight/light into traffic) and it has to come off.":finger4:

I was STUNNED:eek: and thought I was trippin'. He can't do that!:angryfire

Oh and my black tint was $150 after taxes. Take it back and watch them tint it (they'll love that).

Peace!

I'm thinking if I make them fix it, it will just start pealing and look as bad as before. I made them fix part of it the other day, and it seems that they fixed one bubble, and in the process created another one.
I give up! I'm going to go to another tinting place.
What kind of tint do you guys suggest? Normal or the mirror tint?

What kind of tint do you guys suggest? Normal or the mirror tint? Save yourself the money and have them redo it. You paid them good money and should have gotten a satisfactory service from them and they failed to do so, therefore the weight is on their shoulders to satisfy the customer. No questions asked. My car is black and I have mirror tint. Looks great b/c it is different and adds a great effect to the car's apprearance. Sometimes you may see right through it, but when it's cloudy you can't see jack. You'll love it. I'd go with a Maddico Cool Chrome, or Llumar Platinum plus. Both give you a silverish look and superior quality. If they try to bullsh*t around, tell them you will report them to the Better Business Bureau or talk to a mgr/owner and I'm sure they will try to help you out. Don't settle for sh-tty workmanship.

i dont know about the rest of you guys but on my 99 G the windows were already slightly tinted... like less than 80%, but it was dyed into the glass in the form of a greenish hue... i was told that the metallic mirrored tints would enhance this "green" and that it would look crummy.

btw i paid $225 w/tax for my tints which have a lifetime warrantee against defects from either the tints or workmanship. they look great, i have not noticed any problems with the tints.

You were told right. If you put the mirror tint on, it would bring out the greenish blue color more.

The tint on my old car that problem but it is hard to get in the rear corners to smoth out those bubbles. I am saving up to tint my G becuase i wanna get my widows dipped in tint so this way there is no chance of bubbling or anything cause I am a perfectionist when it comes to stuff with my car. Any one herd of prices for dipping?
