The only time fuel economy would change is if you used full throttle and higher RPS, otherwise the fuel usage would be the same as a single carburetor. Fuel usage is related to power output. If a certain power level with a single carburetor at full throttle was the same as two carburetors at half throttle, then the fuel usage would be identical. In this case.... about 17 to 20 mpg.

I had a 1600 dp with oversized valves and dual 40mm kadrons. It actually improved my economy because I didn't have to have my foot to the floor to get moving. Not sure of mpg with duals but single was 16.

wow - 16 is pretty poor in my view. Mind you, it is a 1600. I have a 1300 and getting around 29/30mpg. I thought that was bad!

Do you have any idea on how to improve it at all? Any mods that will help?

A reflection of the past: When the VW Bugs were first introduced in about 1957, the average American automobiles were getting about 6 mpg. This was a time when gasoline sold for 18 cents per gallon. I even saw the prices down to 15 cents per gallon in Texas during the gas wars of 1962. Also, at that time, 91 octain was the lowest rating for regular gasoline. Premimum could be had at 96 or higher octain for a few cents more. Anyway, the 16 or better miles per gallon that the air cooled VW produced was the beginning of the new wave of better fuel economy vehicles we'd see in the future.
