i have a 91 crx hf and am planning to do a swap. looking to swap with a jdm d15b vtec that pushes 130hp stock. if i upgrade to any tranny other than an hf tranny i have to also change the axles, hubs, clutch, etc.

I was just wondering what you guys think about using an hf tranny with that engine.
any input is appreciated. thanks guys/girls!

it'll be damn long ratios get you great gas milage but you'll pay in accelarating. swapping tranny would be a very good idea.

What kinda gas mileage are you talking about with the long gears on the d15b?

Seeing how as HF's were capable of 50mpg, then he'd still be getting good milage. Although if your doing a swap, swap the tranny, you'll be crying off the line with an HF tranny.

Seriously, if you're going to swap in an OBD I motor, at least go through the extra trouble and swap the transmission too. I have seen LS trannied B16As and it's a SAD sight, this would be comparible. IMO, you'd be doing yourself a lot better to get a DOHC ZC that pushs about the same.

I am going for the fuel economy, not the speed.

Then why even bother with the swap at all, HF gets the best milage of the series.

With the current state of gas prices, I think you'd be the smartest person on the board to keep the stock HF.

I am doing a swap as well. I have heard several different things about how to wire the Vtec. I have a 91 civic si hatchback that did have the d16a6. I just got yesterday the d15b vtec. Can I use my existing harness and just wire for vtec? Should I get a harness from a 92-95 ex civic? I have the P08 ECU on the way. Can someone please help?
