hey im new to this whole automotive forum. but anyways, i recently purchased a 1990 dodge omni, a step up from my old 81 vw rabbit. hahaha. but anyways, i was thinking of doing a few simple things to it, if anyone has any wisdom to how they work. i dont know a lot about cars, but it seems like the whole system of getting air into the engine is a lil funky. redoing that might help a lil for horsepower. ok so ill admit, i like to drive fast... with whatever car i happen to be driving... so im just trying to find a few relatively simple things i could do to upgrade this vehicle. any help is appreciated.

What's in it?
Is it a GLHS? That would be good...

2.2 or 2.5?
5speed manual or crapomatic?

You might be suprized waht the little POS can do....

nope its not a GLH or GLHS... so then im pretty sure it just has the 93hp 2.2 engine. oh and its a 5 speed manual. this car isnt quick... but its not terribly slow either. it has more pull to it then the rest of the POSes at my house. i guess 'fast' cars... it tends to be a relative term... gotta have something to relate it to. see.. most of the kids in my town race jettas and civics. :) definetly nothing special. im gonna buy another car soon. but im driving this for the summer while im saving up some more money.

It's an Omni America. I'm guessin, 4 door with A/C too?
Good little car....
you can get it to 110+ with a cam and followers, but a turbo conversion is the quicker way. You'll have to fork out some dough, but it's worth it.
Watch out for bad CV joints, and the shifter linkage. If you bang gears, you'll break the little nylon retaining rings, and they can be a bitch to put back together.

Basically, you need to make the car into a GLHS to have at least some respect.
The OMNI is originally based on a part VWRabbit/Part SIMCA european "family" car I think there's even some HILLMAN (british) heritage to it...

Yeah, it's a POS too, but it can be a fun POS....!

there was a rather rare special edition omni... a Shelby Turbo. :grinno:

my neighbor has one... looks exactly like a regular omni, but for the "Shelby" and "Turbo" insignia on the back. and yes, it does indeed rawk.

My suggestion would be to do a Turbo II swap.

wow i was thinking of something quite a bit simpler actually... like starting off with minor mods... if there are such things for a car of the likes of mine. thanks for all the ideas so far tho..

Do the turbo II conversion!!
you can probably find a donor car for peanuts...

Summer's always more fun when you hear that turbo wind up and watch the mustangs disappear in your rear view mirror (oh crap! that mustang has blue lights on the top....!).

come on... have some fun!
