Reasearchawagner777 05-11-2004, 05:24 PM Hello all, I am doing a little homework because the bill at the gas pumps are KILLING me. I spend more per month in gas than my truck payment! Something has got to give! I am considering a Chevy Trailblazer with an I-6, that, according to some, gets in the neighborhood of 16-20, which is a marked improvement over the 11-14 that my D gets. I have looked at the Xterra and noticed it doesn't do a whole lot better. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to let me know! Thanks Aaron Wagner *Sad to part with my Durango...* :( slantsixness 05-12-2004, 01:42 PM AARON, Stay with your durango!!! Gas will come back down, or get a better job???!!!, or.. try a Jeep Liberty out... I don't mind them, just a little small for my fat A$$! Slantsixness By the way, my '86 D100 gets better than 25MPG....and has over 400Kmiles... awagner777 05-12-2004, 04:10 PM The Libertys are ugly as sin! Gas prices come down and i'm getting better milage.. I win. PLUS, and this is a big plus, Check out these posts: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=218216 http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=154652 http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=198095 There are several documented cases where the Durango Engine just locks up. I don't want to be stuck with, as one user put it, a $20,000 Yard Ornament. I'm young, 22, and i have a decent job, so i can handle the gas prices where they are, but if they go up any more im gonna start riding a bike to work *no kidding, it's not that far*. Im just trying to cover my arse. Check this out http://www.BigClassAction.com For what it's worth. slantsixness 05-13-2004, 07:28 AM Yeah, I've seen all that stuff, Did you notice my post to Joe about the trade? That's a sad thing. You know, there's about 400,000 Durango's out there that ther are NO problems with... and no lawsuits... not that they're all perfect, or have the same motor, or brakes, or that get deer that fall into them off bridges.... And I ride the bus to work, but I drive 5 miles to get to the bus at the commuter lot. Work is 50 miles away... that would be an interesting (pedal) bike ride... Anyway, the trailblazer's pretty damn ugly too...and misshaped, but do as you like, it's not a terrible little SUV yet.... but could it be 4 years from now..... hmm.... give that a little thought...? awagner777 05-18-2004, 10:15 AM I probably wont go with the trail blazer. It's simply out of my price range. I do love them tho... Very stylish. I love my Durango, but i don't wanna be stuck with a dead one in six months. slantsixness 05-18-2004, 10:33 AM Then don't kill it! BleedDodge 05-18-2004, 11:16 PM It will last you if you take care of it. Take care of it, and it will take care of you! rcs426 06-03-2004, 06:50 AM when at a car dealer looking for a new car walk behind the shop that should tell you more about things . i go to dealership alot for work and i see more t/blazer engines in crates that ar bad with les the 10k on them then i do at the dodge dealership mason_RsX 06-03-2004, 07:17 AM I dont know much about your specific durango but I used to own a trailblazer and mine still guzzled (15.8L per 100k sorry im Canadian). It does have an I6 bit it has a 4.2L I6 which is basically a small block V8. The car has had 1 problem: The entire computer system died one day on the highway and I had to have it towed to the dealership. personally I did like the car, but it still sucked gas tommychau 06-03-2004, 08:56 AM I wonder if Dodge will ever come out with their Hybrid Durango that I saw them working on a couple years back where they combine a 3.7 v6 with an electric motor. Gas mileage is supposed to be in the mid 20's and supposed to perform like a v8. slantsixness 06-07-2004, 08:51 AM hmmm.... then you could just throw in a cummings..... what good does the electric motor do with a 3.7L V6 it has to haul around? That seems illogical. But, then again... it Chrysler..... stupider things have happened...! tommychau 06-07-2004, 01:26 PM I totally would love to see a cummins in a durango! I am sure the fuel mileage would be alot better vs a gas engine! I seen alot of the HD 2500 Cummins get really good fuel mileage on the hwy. Anywhere from 19-23 mpg's. And a Durango being a lighter weight vehicle, I can expect to see even higher mpg numbers. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
